BMX - My BMX

Well I just purchased a new Diamondback Viper X. Its a great bike but the wheels are just bound to bend horridly. But anyways its a bike that I do reccomend it is by far the best I have ever owned in my life.


BTW could you please tell me what company makes the best wheels and tires because I am looking to replace them.

it depends on what you're looking for. i like odyssey wheels or primo wheels, and primo,animal,maxxis,and odyssey make good tires

Well I just ride anywhere. Street,off road and gravel. Just a very tough rim for hardcore riding.

hula hoop, hazard(im not sure if they're still available),maybe tripplewalls if you land really hard. You also have to buy good spokes and hubs

The bike has 36 hole rims, there is nothing wrong with them, they are Alex rims. If you are worried about bending them, you bought the wrong bike. You want good new rims, then dish out ALMOST AS MUCH AS YOUR BIKE COSTS. Really, new rims will run you about $150.00 for anything even halfway decent and quickly go up from there.

For the same price you paid for your bike you could have gotten a bike with smaller gearing, 3-piece cranks, better design, front brakes, and 4 pegs, with 48 spoked wheelset.

I would not recommend the Viper-X to anyone looking to buy a bike - but if you already have it, then enjoy it.

Yea, definately not the best bike ever, in fact on the other side of the spectrum.. It's not total crap but I would never sugest that to anyone.

Well it is definetly lower-end. Those rims should be fine like BMXTRIX said, probably nothing better than the ones on my bike and they're doing just fine for me. And if you thought that the rims are 'bound to bend horridly', then why did you buy that bike? And how would you know if they are 'bound to bend horridly'? Every rim on a lower-end bike is bound to bend sometime. ANY rim is bound to bend sometime actually, so the better the quality the longer it will take to bend. I seriously doubt that they will just snap on you out of the blue. So, since you've already bought the bike, just ride it and have fun. I wouldn't replace the rims until they break, there's no need to if they work fine.

Are Sun Rhynolites suitable only for racing, or are they strong enough for a bit of freestyle/jump action?

Well I don't know what you mean by a 'bit' of freestyle/jumping action, but they are double-walled rims so they should be fine. I don't think my bike has double-walled rims, but I've been jumping it since I've had it. (about a year) So, yes, they should be fine. And do you already have these rims? Or are you looking to buy yourself a pair?

I've got them on our tandem as they were one of the few rims that could handle the abuse and loads. They also came stock on my Haro. I was just wondering why I never see them offered as a good rim for BMX, that's all.

The 24" and 26" versions are pretty good apparently. I've never used them myself, but a lot of people have great luck with them.

I'd run them on a BMX if I were piecing it out, but not many stock bikes seem to have them...

They've held up quite well on the tandem, and I don't know which Alex rims are good, and which are bad, so I tried to avoid them. They're wrapped up in some Maxxis Max Daddy rubber, and I have a set of Kenda K-Rad for light street use. I notice a lot of guys use chrome rims on their BMX bikes. I'm not very partial to steel.

Well what i would buy is Odyssey Hazard Lite Cassette wheel set with some snafu rim job and knob job tires.

I bought that bike because some of us don't exactly have the money to go out and buy a 500$ bike you prick. And yes, the wheels may be new, but I ride my bikes hard. Say, jumping off stairs and high ledges. So believe me they will bend soon. And that is not my biggest worry, its the frickin' air tubes. THOSE are the things that are holding me back. Can you reccomend me some air tubes that hold up to big jumps?

B) Point out that if you can't afford the gear for the job, sucks to be you.

Ok, first off DO NOT call me a prick. There is no need to do that, and if you want help from anyone here you're going to have to watch the attitude. Got it? And second, I don't have the money to buy every bike I want, and every bike part that I want, I can't even get a job so I'm stuck doing house-hold chores and farm work around my neighborhood to earn money. How does that sound to you? And third, I couldn't even afford a bike as good as your getting, so why don't you just shut up with the 'poor person, can't afford bike' act crap and be glad you could get another bike.



Now, as for the inner tubes, danscomp.com has a wide variety of innertubes made for all different things. I'd suggest looking at either their Dan's Street/trails tubes, or their Dan's Heavy Duty tubes. Those are extra built up and thicker, so they should do. I'm not an expert on tubes though, and this is just 'my' suggestion. You might want to wait for some more suggestions before you buy anything. Hope it works out for you.

A tube is a tube. buy them bulk

Well, i don't have money like that, and the area i live in isn't rich. I have a decent bike. You need to save up your money. Don't buy a bike if you know there is going to be a problem. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

How do you know if you are gonna ride hard if you are a beginner?

Well first off. I have been saving for around....4 years now? Back then I did'nt quite want to save much longer. So I went out and bought that. There is nothing wrong with my bike, it just came with crappy tubes. But anyways I will look into that site you posted and get back to you about it.
