General Cycling Discussion - Shimano SPD sandals

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey guys!
I finally bought some of the Shimano sandals yesterday, and wore them for the 10 miles into work. They fit great, and actually fit better than my mountain shoes. Nice to feel the wind between my toes too. Despite being sandals, they do seem to be a little heavier then my other shoes though.
Anyway, for about miles 2-4 my feet were uncomfortable right were the cleat attaches. I think that this is due to the screws being a tad long and affecting the cushioning (probably need to grind them down a tad). Anyway, after a couple miles my feet felt just fine again. Anybody know why? I figured I would really be hurting near the end of the ride, but it seemed to get better for some reason.

Hi
I haven't posted here in a long time, but...
I love my sandals. I wore them today in pouring rain & nasty wind with seal skin socks & booties & I've worn them in cooler weather & stayed pretty warm, but I love them in the summer sans socks! That's when they shine! I don't recall any trouble breaking them in. They are much more comfy than the other shoes I had.

I dunno. Mine felt a little odd the first ride or two. Now they're far and away my favorite all around summer shoes--including off the bike. Wear 'em on the bike in cold weather too with socks. Geeky but comfy.

This product has gotten so dang many glowing reviews from those who use them that I'm definitely going to make it my next clipless shoe.

I like the idea of the windy feeling but I'm afraid I'll jack my toes up when I fall over.

You stole my thunder. I have Lakes and Exustar sandals ($29 NB). Why? Two different pedal schemes. I have SPuDs on a bike that my wife and I share Penninger Voyager Recumbent Trike (Its hers but I ride it too) All my bikes have EggBeaters. Sandals are great for those that have a tendency to get hot feet in the summer. I can't see using them in winter or at temps below say 55/60 even with socks. I hate cold feet more than hot feet.
Sandals are great for my commuting and casual riding/touring. But for speedy road riding or MTB'ing I stick to real shoes.
