I've just been looking at danscomp.com, and have found something interesting. Primo's Powerbites, as well as their Hollowbites aren't any lighter than Profile Racing cranks or Odyssey 41 Thermal cranks. So why make them out of aluminum if they aren't any lighter? Isn't that the reason to make stuff out of aluminum? It doesn't make sense. I just thought that was odd, that's all.

aluminum cranks are made from a solid peice of material, where as cromo cranks are welded in places, this can sometimes improve their strength

ya...the new PRIMO hollowbites are supposed to be stronger with less flex....i got a set recently and they are really nice....

Well I know that is what they are suposed to do, but this thread is about why they made them out of aluminum instead of cromo and they weigh more than cromo cranksets do. But this thread is old, so it doesn't matter.

Profiles are fine for lots of people, but powerbites are stronger. I've twisted profile spindles and I know plenty of people who've snapped the arms.

yea, and you mail it back to them and get a new one for free in a week. Powerbites also break eventually and you dont get a free one in that case.

fbm rider, what crank do you use? i ride a profile and it's perfectly fine
