Mountain Biking - Finally got a set of tires that I'm going to stick to.(Possible Suprise)

Destroyed the Maxxis' already and the tiogas just don't cut it. Went out looking for a tire that would work. The owner reccomended to try a Bontrager Big Earl out, so I took his word and got one to try. Got back and mounted it and went shuttling. Was fearing the worst, because the last time I tried a Bontrager Tire I didn't even make it a mile before ripping it off for another tire. With this tire my intuition was completely wrong. It was indeed a very grippy tire and light at that. My only complaint is that installing the first one was a handful. Was very well pleased overall with the tire which was on the front, so I went back and got the other one that was there for the rear took it out for shuttling again and the bike felt like it was running on rails. Overall I give the Big Earl 4.7/5.

Bontrager has done well this year. The offerings are mean looking and hookup. Can't wait to get cdn pricing. :)

I just bought a mountain bike (my first bike), and was a bit chagrined when the salesman told me that a blackberry thorn would puncture the tire. We've got blackberry bushes everywhere in Seattle. Haven't they invented the equivalent of a steel-belted tire for bicycles?

You can get a thick tube, tube liner, and put slime in the tires, and it should hold air in pretty well.

I once rode through a rose bush when I was riding around... I was wearing shorts, so the only damage done was to my legs.
Also, the 'goat heads' out here are pure evil, but the slime seals it up if they happen to get into the tube.

Man, those are the best looking Bontragers I've ever seen(not that I've seen that many). My ride partners got the ones with the evenly spaced knobs all over it(maybe decent shoulders) and they suck. 2.5's would be a little too wide for our XC frames, tho. They make a smaller version?

It seems to be common that Bontragers are hard to mount, at least the first time. Same with their road tires for that matter.
