My son wants me to start riding with him, so at 52 I bought my first mountain bike. The last bike I knew how to shift had 3 speeds. Things have changed! I bought a Trek bike with disk brakes because there are a lot of hills in Seattle.

My other goal is to lose weight. My doctor said I had to lose 100 pounds within 2 years. This is going to be one of my exercise types, along with walking and stair climbing. I used to play football, so I know what's involved in getting in shape. I've just neglected it for 30 years, and I'm regretting that. :(

Welcome to BF.

I started riding again in 1999. Got serious in 2000 after corporate downsizing. When I started I weighed ~240 pounds. I've been 185-190 pounds since June 2004. I'm now 60 years old and commute year round, 4-5 days a week. I ride hard on the weekends and enjoy hills. Hills are your friend.

If I can do it, so can you. Good luck.

do enough biking and exersize and you may not lose 100 lbs but the flabby stuff on the body will turn to steel! Good Luck.
Great that you have a son that wants to ride with you and you're son is lucky to have a dad willing to do it. Enjoy the time togeather.
