we don't need to keep them as pets 'round here. you can find them almost anywhere, i probably see 4-5 on a nice day.

i wanted a pet lizard once, just a small one, parents would not let me because they siad i would get bored of it, they are probably right aswell, had some south american tree frogs, these fellers wernt cheap either, £25 each, me and my brother bought 2, used a large aquarium we had, as a veverium for it (70 liter tank) i read books about how to keep them, i did stuff right put in undersoil heating for them, my brothers bedroom got very hot and humid because of this, and then they die after 6 months maybe i did ot clean the tank out enough. Although they where dead, there presence was still felt, we had crickets running around the house till next winter!
I remember some time back having some lovely tropical fish 17 or so, had them for ages, got them from some freinds who moved abroad, so we go on holiday, my cousin, i dont know what the hell she did because she was suposed to look after them but when we get back half of them are dead! Including my 2 fishes, that brown/black type that look abit like a stingaray (obviously no where near that big) but more squaeshed up, they mostly just live on the floor under some wood or somthing and just surface from time to time, maybe you know what im talking about, and there other type was sleek it was fast, nice fish i remember when they gave them to us they where all in a rather large open toped bucket, this fish jumped in the journey home in the car escaped the bucket twice, we had 2 look for him at night in the pitch black, my mum opend the car door this sucker even manged to get out of the car, dont know where he was heading to thou, the pub? lol
had in a seprate tank a gold fish, put a whole load of guppies in the tank, i notice the number of gupies misitiruosly getting lower from an original large number maybe 20 or so, quite a few seemed to disipear and then 1 day i saw the gold fish swollow 1! days latter i notice the gold fish on the bottem of the tank cudnt swim, it had bite marks on its flippers, the 10 year old fish, own at a fair ground was dead by the next day! right now all we have is a dog.
