Well, I *THINK* I've got the problem solved, but I was having skipping issues during my ride yesterday, so this morning I cleaned up the chain and the rear d. Then I started making adjustments to the limit adjustment screws (9spd Deore LX on an 05 Giant NRS). I got everything running smoothly right off the bat, except for stinkin' 5th gear. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to get the upper pulley in the proper alignment so that it didn't skip in 5th, or pose problems downshifting to 4th.
Arg. I think it's good now though...we'll see. I've got to get it out on the trail today to test it out, as I've got a race tommorow morning.
Anyone have any quick tips for tuning those picky middle gears?

Well, since I can't delete my own post...
I dun' did figgrit it out Rufus. I used http://www.parktool.com/repair_help/FAQrindx.shtml and their derailleur tuning FAQ to solve my lil problem.
It was kind if intimidating at first, but now, after spending literally all day trying to get the bike in the kind of tune I want it in (with about 90 minutes of riding thrown in) I actually know for the first time really, really how a derailleur works, and how to properly tune it. Good feeling, I just hope my tune-up job doesn't fail me tommorow :D

If you'll note, I cannot delete the original post - only follow on posts.
Thanks a million for being condescending though.

Wasn't my intent.
