There is an article in today's paper about a 1.5-acre bike park (mtb/stunt park they describe it) being built under I-5 in the Eastlake neighborhood and slated to open in October. It's part of the 8-acre Open Space Project park, with an off-leash doggie area, sculptures, and other park amenities. The Backcountry Bicycle Trails Club is working with the city to construct the park with logs, jumps, and whoopdeedoos for urban mtb fun. Sounds like a great alternative to being kicked off the trails and a fun retreat for all. I remember a few years ago the climbing community was interested in having some of the area being used for sport climbing; maybe drilling holds into the pillars of I-5 didn't go over too well. :)
