Training & Nutrition - I Think I'm Burned Out and Overtraining...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. ... I had yesterday and today off and the weather's nice... but I have no desire to ride.
Still too cold outside and I don't feel like putting on leg warmers. :(
I was riding my trainer everyday, but took of Thursday, yesterday and maybe today.

Don't sweat it if you take a couple or three days off of the bike. Have you been taking regular breaks or is this your first break in an extended period of time? It could possibly be that you couldn't face another workout on the trainer.

as long as there is no physical illness or decrease in performance, it sound like it is only mental overtraining. give yourself at least 2 or 3 days off, and try to enjoy a ride outside afterwards. the trainer sucks, its boring, and it doesn't really make riding enjooyable, so you can easily lose motivation. go outside one day if it warms up a little, no HRM, no training, just go ride and enjoy it. take your time, stop and get some food, and just ride for fun. hopefully that will help, it defidently helped me when i went through the same thing
Trainer riding is not fun but for some of us a necessity. There are times I do not feel like getting on the trainer but once there I feel good. Sometimes it is just getting out of the door and you feel the nice warm weather and you want to go...
When I feel that way I know it is time for a nice base ride, low intensity, enjoy the scenery, etc...
Take a few days off and you will be ready.

The thought of riding a trainer is much worse than actually riding the thing.

It's normal to get burnt out, especially if it's cloudy outside and cold. I think it's good to take a few days off now and then. Changing to a different route can help motivate you. I think everyone on here has gone through this before.

this happens to me at the change of season. we have such limited perfect days to ride that we put too much pressure when one comes along early in the season. this is mental and not physical, unless your HR is elevated.
What are you training for? If it's for general fitness, do something other than cycling (GASP!) once in a while. Run, walk, swim, row, jazzercize, whatever. You will want to get back on the bike in a day or two, if you're like me. (BTW I never really tried jazzercize because I was born with two left feet. Anyone want to buy cycling shoes--right foot only?)
Yeah, I'm doin the same thing now. We had a nice weekend, but I didn't ride, just didn't want to and the season just started and I havn't even been out yet!
It's ALL mental. You need a change. Try differant routes - take the bike somewhere else, differant group of people (if you ride with a group), differant bike (?)....I know! Nothing gets you more excited about riding than a brand new bike!
No way I'm going to be able to talk me missus into that one. Yer not alone with this problem lad.

I took Friday off, rode a little Saturday, but set no goals at all and had a nice time, just took my fixie to Central Park and practiced trackstands (my legs STILL hurt)... then took Sunday, Monday and today (Tuesday) off. The weather has been horrible in NYC anyway but tomorrow is going to be nice.
I'm going to do 2-3 hours outside tomorrow before I go to work.
It was mental. I still have no desire at all to go near the trainer!

After doing one of those no big deal centuries this past Saturday I got on the trainer Sunday evening for a little spin. I lasted 30 minutes before I called it quits. If I'm doing one of my Spinervals DVDs I can ride on the trainer for an hour and half without any issues. Even listening to music didn't keep me from getting bored to tears :(. Trainers sometime suck.
I do not even want to go near a trainer this week but I have too...

My trainer is turning out to be a good... not much really, it's just sitting there and I never ever want to use it again :) (at least until next winter)

training indoors can be mentaly tough. I have been on rollers since October, I hate rain and the cold. I have only been outside 3 times so far this year, but ride pretty much everyday on the rollers and do spinervals etc.
I find it hard too go get out when the weather sucks, its been raining a lot in cali.
Take a few days off I have done several times due to travel or feeling like you.
Day 3, I feel real bad and cant wait to get back on and I seem to perform better. Rest is really important. And weatherwise, when that sun starts heatin things up you will get out dont worry.
Its going to be 80 degrees tomorrow so im riding to work!! about time...

The only way I can get through a trainer work out, it seems, is to pop in a spinervals DVD and hammer along with Coach Troy. I did 65 minutes easily last night.

Three days??? The weather's not that bad in where, Fresno? "Oops, can't ride today. It's 65 and cloudy."
I've had 64 ride days to date, all outside. And the weather in the Bay Area isn't much different than where you are. Some days I got cold, others I got a little wet. But that's okay.
Get out there and ride!
