Kona caldera '04 ($820) vs. '05 ($999). I'm thinking '04 no question, but i'd like to know from someone who knows more about the components than I if much has really changed. The '05 feels lighter, but i dont think it feels $180 lighter.

For economical reasons, '05 bike prices shot up from '04. Some companies added minor component changes to make buyers think the increase is justified. In this case, the components that really matter (frame, fork, derailleurs, shifters, brakes) have stayed the same, so I'd go with the '04.

For what it's worth, Kona kept it's price shifts pretty reasonable compared to some other companies. My '04 Marin Pine Mountain, for instance, had a MSRP of about $1300. The '05 Pine Mountain's MSRP is $400 MORE at $1700, and there were no significant changes made.
