Introductions - just another ignorant newbie, from San Diego

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi, I don't know if anyone reads this, but am 27yr old male currently living in San Diego and moving back to MI. I recently started getting into Mountain Biking and am kind of bummed about having to move back to MI where there are very limited good trails and more than half of the year has unfavorable riding conditions. I am moving back the end of April which will be perfect timing to start riding and I plan on continuing my riding the rest of the summer and fall.
Basically, I haven't been into mountain bike riding since I was 13 years old, when I bought a Giant Fuji and can remember how excited I was when I first got it and rode it. I currently have a fairly new bike but don't know I should ship it to MI or sell it here in SD and find another used bike in MI. I need to know how much it costs to ship a bike cross country and I would like to be updated on the new technologies I have been unimformed about for so long. I feel like an old man writing all this.

Welcome to BikeForums. Where abouts MI are you moving? I know MTB riding in MI can be limited but there are some good trails. I used to live in Ann Arbor and regularly rode in Pinckney and Brighton. Shipping a bike shouldn't be that expensive. A good shop near you can usually offer good advice on it. You may also want to PM ngateguy as he has excellent knowledge on shipping procedures.
