Well, it may not be as picutresque here as it is in some of the place you guys ride in but this is where Haagen does his work. Finally took BlackBerry's advice and took my box brownie.

Crikey, mate, where are all the 'roos an' platypusses an' crocs an' poisonous snakes? How far to the winery? It's 22 miles for my creaky knee winery rehab ride to Arbor Crest in Spokane, WA. Nice x-rays on the knee replacement page, by the way.

Thanks. Wasn't easy and still causes me great pain. The ride to Petersons is only about 12 Kms there and back and that will be enough to keep me in a certain amount of pain for the rest of the day. On the up side, I haven't been this fit for about 15 years.

It's not too far to Petersons, only about 6 Km. Simdanni is up on another hill North of town and is prolly about 10 Km one way. Trouble is I could get caught there. I'm really gearing up to go to Merilba Estate for their "Jazz amongst the vineyards" bash later on in the year.

Oops, almost forgot. The roos around here are as thick as flies on a dead dingos donger but only come out at dusk. As for snakes, there are loads of red bellied black snakes and brown snakes. The both will put you into hospital but the brown will likely kill you. I got hit by a brown and spent three months in hospital for my trouble. I've been bitten by just about everything possible, shark, lion, spider, and the snake was the biggest pain in the arse... although that's where I got bitten by the lion :D :D :D

I believe the hospital bills from the bike race in Kilamanjaro (when you tossed me down the mine shaft) are quickly approaching seven figures.

Thanks for the interesting flicks. I had a box brownie, it was red. What season is it over there? What is the climate like?

I'm not so sure about the knee photos and the story. :eek: Sounds like quite an ordeal.

It's autumn here now and starting to cool off. Armidale sits at around 3,500' and gets four very distinct seasons. It is one of the nicest inland parts of Oz. I'll take more pics as I get fitter and ride further since there are some very pretty places to see around here.

Knees are a pain. Mind you, without the replacements I'd still be sitting somewhere typing or whatever. At least I get to ride on a bike now.

Did you have arthritis? My cycling has helped my arthritis and bad back immensely. I hope it does the same for you.

I enjoyed your pics--looked a little like east Texas to me. The surgery story was interesting. Based on that, you have fantastic talent as a writer.

Narr no athritis at the moment. So far it's doing my health more favours than my knees but that will come in time I'm sure.

Well....If you can put up with the traffic, pot-holed road, nasty weather, & lack of road-side amenities.....not too bad a place to bike....

You have probaly already been told, but just in case make sure you spin fast in lower gears and don't try and push large gears at lower speeds. Feels odd at first but your knees will love you for it.
I have had the bones reshaped in one of mine a fair while back (replacement is probaly in the future) once I started doing the above the pain dropped by about 90%.

Yeah, I've been making sure I'm spinning more after last Friday when I went out to the airport for a run. I think I really over did it and coasted all the way to work today - Funny thing is it only took 45 seconds longer than when I bust my gut.

you work at a winery? what do you do there?

I want to work at a winery. In the meantime I'll tend my back yard vines and make my yearly supplies. I work in IT and would switch jobs to a winery without even asking shogun.
