BMX - S&M vs. T1 (which is better for dirt and park)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've always been a fan of S&M frames, so this is going to have a bit of bias.
S&M Black Bike - Great frame, aside from the seatstay brakes (you get a worse brake line than with chainstay brakes). It has a good, short rear end, and has good strength. Have I ridden one? Yes. Have I owned one? No.
S&M Stricker - This is my current weapon of choice, and has been for the past year. I love it. The only thing that I don't like is that the rear end is a bit too long for my liking, but that can be fixed with an angle grinder is you care that much. I beat the hell out of the frame, and I haven't had a single problem with it.
T1 Barcode - Great frame, great geometry, great strength. If you get one, make sure that it has chainstay brake mounts, because the brake line for the seatstay ones on the Euro BB model is awful - even Joe and Taj admit this.
T1 Ruben - Spanish BB's are awful; I will state this flat out. FBM/Fit/S&M's Mid BB - which uses normal Profile bearings - may turn out alright, but the Mid is just plain bad. I know two people who have bought frame's with Spanish bottom brackets, and both have "sh1t the bed", so to speak. The bearings are too small to offer any improvement over that of a Euro, they don't save that much weight, the bearings are a non-standard size so they cost more if you have to replace them, and they're more prone to breaking because they're not as thick as the bearing used in an American (or the two bearings used in Euros). The frame design, however, looks fine to me; it's nothing more than a Barcode with a different seatstay-toptobe junction.

Get what you want. They are all plenty allright frames. Get what you feel will work for you.. I was torn between the TI barcode and the FBM Night Train.. I went with the Night Train.. I had to decide, so I did. I've been happy.

i got my first s&m in 1995 and have never looked back. best bikes out there. they used to be better if ya broke one (i had a really old holmes with a re-welded head tube that they took back, way back when everything was still 1 inch head sets.) but they still are the $hit.

The barcode is really a sweet bike. The one I rode once was pretty tiny but it was a solid bike.

On the newer Barcodes, you can go 25-9 on the one with seatstay mounts (American BB) and 28-10 with Fly brakes on the model with chainstay mounts (Euro), or 30-11 with Evolvers.
On the Stricker, I was at 30-11 with the Evolvers and now the Flys, and am going down to 28-10 in a few weeks. If it doesn't fit quite right, well, that's what a metal file is for.

I think that the new Primo E-Brakes have about the same stack height as Evolvers, so they should work.
