I was trying on MTB shoes today to replace my old, old Shimano shoes. Those shoes have three simple velcro straps to hold them on my feet and they work fine.
Some of the shoes I tried on today had a ratcheting buckle on the outside to tighting the upper part of the shoe. It worked well and felt comfortable but I immediately noticed that the buckle itself sticks pretty far out. I've smashed the outside of my foot on rocks and roots plenty of times and think this buckle sticking out an inch would just smack on everything. Worst case, I can see the thing shearing right off.
Anyone ever use any of these type shoes and is the buckle a problem?
