i know there was many threads about *******s here, but i must rant. i was riding my bike yesterday & some moron in a mini-van threw a empty wendy's cup at me. what was funny was the moron was 2 lanes to my left & when he threw the cup, the wind just took it & it flew back & so did the ice from the cup & hit the car behind him & the driver layed on his horn! duh! the cup came nowhere near me, buit it still annoys me that drivers would do something like that. just one time i would love to catch them at a red light! only a coward would throw something knowing i can't catch him & he'll get away with it.

Society is at an all time low, if someone threw something at me and I was able to catch up to them, I would bang on the window and when the assclown urolled it I would give back to him what he threw at me.

I had mondo sized mardi gras beads hucked at me as the assclown went by at 55mph. I've also had some jerk throw a big ass water balloon at me.
What are you gonna do?????????

I had a water balloon thrown at me by a van going 50 mph as it passed and it hit me square in the back!

Fluke that he got me or maybe he should have been throwing in the majors.

i had a guy throw his fast food garbage at me from his company truck - "accurate expediting" of romulus, michigan. pure genius! his supervisor was very polite with me on the phone the next day.

When I was walking on a sidewalk passengers threw oranges from the back of their pickup at my back. Two of them hit me and so hard they knocked me to the ground. I had giant welts nearly the size of the oranges. By far the most painful brusing I have ever had.

Cigarette butts, so many cigarette butts. Nobody has managed to actually hit me with them though.

I knew a cyclist who said someone threw a half-eaten chicken carcass at her. Adding insult to injury . . . she's a vegetarian.

i get those a lot too. although in my case, i think they just flick them out of the window indiscriminately and i happen to be right there.

I can see that happening in NYC but on county roads in Alabama I can only assume that they're aiming for me.

Well, it sounds as if he got what was coming to him, and he made as ass out himself. Why even trip on it?

So if he was two lanes over how do you know he was actually targeting you? And if he's too the left of you? Sounds like a bit of Drama Queening.

Reminds me of my college days, I worked road construction in D.C., I was flagging one day and a guy threw a bottle at me, hit me on my hardhat. My foreman saw it and radioed ahead to the guy working the road ahead-in a Cat 777 loader (huge!-like a D10 bulldozer) so he pulls out in the middle of the road and blocks traffic, 4 of us jump in the back of the foreman's pickup, catch up and pull the guy out of his pickup and beat the living **** out of him, then stuff him back in his truck and send him off. Hehe instant karma. And it broke up the workday nicely too.

Sounds like a bit of Drama Queening. umm, he was shouting obcenities at me & it was obvious to me he was targeting me, but he didn't take into consideration the wind flow. is it really surprising to you that someone would try to hit a cyclist with debris? you must not ride much in that case....

WOW! that's a dream! i bet every cyclist would love for that scenario to happen!

Now, I really don't condone violence, but sometimes this kind of vigilante justice is just what the doctor ordered to teach these creeps a lesson. I assume the incident wasn't reported to the foreman's supervisor? ;)

You're lucky one of the other motorists didn't report the lot of you to the police. I'd have thought a good chewing out would have been just as satisfying. But then, I'm a peacable sort of guy...

Unless they had witnessed the reason for the pummelling. Then they may have even cheered.

I've had the fast food cup of ice hurled at me also. I didn't even see it, only noticed when it hit the hedgerow I was riding along just behind my head.

Anybody here remember the thread with the pictures of the guy who got the bottle thrown at him? He went down and had some pretty bad road rash, not to mention the stitches in his head.

why do you think people throw stuff at cyclists? i know the whole protected in the shell thing, but why throwing stuff? and are cyclists more of a target than pedestrians? i don't think most people realize how dangerous it is to cyclists, who are travelling at speed and balancing on two wheels. do you think the intention is to hurt? scare? feel tough? excitement? i know it's boring riding in a car.

probably just cuz were there. who else can they harass? who really knows why people do the things they do? why do they **** women, steal, cheat, do drugs, ect. i guess it boils down to the fact that god must love idiots because he filled the world with them. the way the law protects these maggots, you would think their an endangered species!

A few years ago someone threw a glass bottle at a mennonite woman on the road. I don't know if she was walking or in a carriage. It hit her in the face, and did some real damage. The community collected money so that she could have plastic surgery to restore her face. That had quite a few people riled up for a while, though I don't know if anything was done about it. I don't even know if the driver was caught...

What was the movie where they got points for hitting things, Road Warrior? I swear I am out in the car for lunch with my boss and someone will pipe up with "10 points for the guy in the wheelchair, hehe". It's just human nature. We depersonalize and destroy.

We told the guy we had his license # and would report him for assault with a deadly weapon if he complained. (Incidentally, the foreman's super was my brother and he was flying up the grade at mach 1 when he heard about it on his radio. He was mad we let him go before he got his shots in. My brother makes me look like Gandi.) There were many, many incidents of road rage (D.C. has horrendous traffic) but that was the only physical incident I was involved in. Well, with a civilian driver anyway...

What makes this practice so dangerous is the speed at which the object hits the cyclist is the speed of the car plus their throwing speed minus your speed (assume no wind resistance and colinear vectors, for simplicity). These idiots obviously don't do the math before they act.

Anyone throwing anything at a cyclist from a car should be charged with ADW.

While I am never sure if I was aimed at I once had a sobe bottle thrown out of a car and hit the road right in front of me. I was ridng on a frontage road with the freeway just on the otherside of a short fence. I was really shaken up, and imagined have to ride 10 miles to the hospital with blood driping off my body. I don't know if they guy was aimign for me, but it seemed strange that someone would pick the mountment when A cyclist was near by to dispose of their trash.

I used to throw snowballs at cars when I was little, but glass and bikes could be a eadly combination

Because they're fat and lazy and stupid, and they see us ride by looking fit and happy, and it just makes them hate us...

Because they're fat and lazy and stupid, and they see us ride by looking fit and happy, and it just makes them hate us... ya i agree. yesterday i was comming home from a 41 mile ride & some bastard in a pickup truck started shouting at me all kinds of vulgar language for what reason i don't know. i had a green light to cross the intersection & i did, he was turning right & i for one had the right away, & had plenty of time to cross, but i guess the ******* was in a hurry like the rest of the american population. ya know what, i'm thinking of packing a pistol when i ride. no fooling, it's getting pretty hostile out there for cyclists & we have the right to defend ourselves too....

Now it all makes sense, when I ride by looking fat and stupid, they leave me alone! Nothing to worry about until I lose some weight. :D

Last year I had a newspaper! But they missed! I caught up to them and I started yelling. I guess they stopped to see if I was comming. Some of them were out of the car and then quickly got back in and gunned it. I reported it to the police (had their plate #). They nicely came to my door and I told them about the incident. They said they would "look out" for the vehicle...
