I am just passing this along. I believe he is in stable condition. Sorry I don't have more info, this was a request for help that was emailed to me:
On Tuesday night, March 29, cyclist Noah Budnick was
hit by a tow truck coming off the Manhattan Bridge
into Brooklyn and seriously injured. The truck did not
stop. So far no witness has been able to provide a
license-plate number. Anyone who saw anything should
call or email Transportation Alternatives.

The city wants to get an injunction to prevent TA members from talkin, writing, or otherwise publicizing Critical Mass. What happened to the Constitution, hey?
I guess it's just easier to mow em down.

I'll bet the truck did a right on red at the bottom of the hill there at, what is it, Jay? People are doing that more and more, making that a very dangerous intersection.
I hope he's ok and I hope the driver gets what he gave someday.
Lacking details, I hesitate to rush to judgement. I pray he recovers without suffering permanently.

Actually, that would be Time's Up!, which is involved in promoting Critical Mass. Transportation Alternatives is a completely different organization.

I thought right-on-red was not allowed in the metro NYC area.

Whoops, you're right. My bad.

that right green arrow on jay makes drivers think they can just keep on making the turn even if it's not green. i don't know why. maybe they're all in a rush to get onto the bqe or to get wherever they're going. i am yelling at cars every day that try and scoot through that light as i'm coming/going to the bridge.

It's not. That corner is the dog's ass at night. Right when you've wound around the bridge footing, there are lights that apparently conflict with each other for a portion of the cycle, it's *really* dark and visibility is pure crap. Plus, the sidewalk and bike path are "protected" by one of those 4' high steel fences, so if you're on the roadbed near the sidewalk, there's no way for you to get out of the street if you need to. It's an ugly intersection.
Doesn't the right side of the manhattan bridge (going into brooklyn) exit directly into the path of the offramp for the manhattan bridge?
I haven't been back there in a while.

Actually, that would be ANYONE. The lawsuit makes the claim that mentioning the schedule - 7:00 PM, last Fiday of every month, Union Square - is a crime. But you're right, TA and Time's Up! *are* completely different organizations.
That intersection is a total nightmare; sadly, I think it was much safer in the bad old days before they "fixed" the bike route there.

TA officially walked away from CM a while ago. Which is fine...in terms of actual observable results, TA has a better record than XUP & CM, which fill an important role. But TA is much more of a change-from -within group.

Sort of...the offramp empties into Jay Street, and people make the right onto Sands under the bridge overpass....but there's a light at the corner and you're clearly on city streets at that point.
Says on the TA website that he's in stable condition. So that's OK, I guess.
