Mountain Biking - SRAM x.7 Conversion

I hear so much about SRAM so I'd like to try it for my rear derailleur since I'm in the mood to try something different. Does anyone know where I could pick up a cheap r/d and shifter?

Yea go with that link. You need shifters to go along with derailleur, assuming your current shifters are not the 1:1 ratio

SRAM makes plenty of Shimano compatible stuff too, but that's a really good deal on that set.

Except nine speeds aren't for 300 lb riders. That makes them doubly taboo for 450 lb riders. It's already too easy to bend 8 speed cartridges. 9 speed is like paper for a big guy.

Oh yeah, and as cool as SRAM derailleurs/shifters are, their cassettes are a little softer than Shimano. They bend easier. Stick with Shimano on this count, no more than 32 teeth.

dude I'm running a 9 speed as we speak and yet to have any issues with it. I haven't even broken a chain...or damaged my cassette.

I think just about everything you said is off base, except for....well, nothing. I guess that Kona puts 9 speed on the Hoss just to sell more chains. Anyway, PWRD, SRAM's stuff is solid, go with it. If I still did gears, I would be on all SRAM parts.

Listen, if you are going to use this attitude with alot of stuff, don't even bother posting here. You are not pwrdby. You don't make the standards that a certain person should ride this and because of a certain variable a different person should use something else. I'm willing to bet a really strong rider will go through a 9 speed chain quicker than a heavier rider will. Torque and weight are two entirely different entities. The pro mtn cross riders go through a chain every two to three runs because of the tourque put on the pedals and chain through out the runs. These riders are in the 160-190 range, and they can break chains easily. Also it is also possible that heavier riders can also be light on the pedals.

My 9 speed stuff lasts much longer than my old 8 speed stuff did.
