I would prefer to build my own bicycle but I am slowly realising this would be a difficult task. Because I dont even know where to start other than by going to the shimano website and looking at there equipment. I know that I will want to build a bike as knowing your bike in and out is part of cycling.

I have 600 dollars to spend on a bike and not a penny more. I live in CO and ride in the mountains so I would want something that could get me up the mountains.

I am 6'1 and dont even know what CM bike size I should get 50,52,56,58? nor what inch bike I should get.

Please go to the below URL and tell me if you see any bikes that are worth the price or If I am getting ripped off, the reason I am suspicious is because most of the bikes only come with shimano sora which is there lowest model equipment.

Just let me know if you see anything worth while or if its all a rip off. I really just want to ride as my MTB is not cutting it any more. If the bikes on that site suck or if you dont feel like looking at them give me your own links I would really appreciate it.Also do you think I should just stick with building my own bike with my budget? Im looking for a Road Racing Bike not a MTB.

For $600, you aren't going to be able to buy a "racing" bike-they start close to $2000. you might be able to build a decent racing bike from new, used, and closeout parts on a good used frame for about $850 (I did), but those sub $600 road bikes on that page are pretty much junk. Buy a decent used bike.
