Bicycle Mechanics - Where to get random bike bits for building from scratch?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi kids,
I'm always in need of some random tiny part (well not always *tiny*) because i've always got some project bike in the works. Usually I just ask my mechanic friend to check his junk box at his shop, but that's not always fruitful... Does anyone know of a place online where you could get a handful of say, bolts for a threaded spindle stem? Or any small part like that, specific ones that may be hard to find at a large online store.
Any ideas?
Thanks
-Brent
I used to shop on-line at Third Hand Tools and Loose Screws, but I do not know whether they have been resurrected.

Yes, John E, thethirdhand.com is back in operation.
Brent, depending on how picky you are, chucksbikes.com is a good place to look for some things. It's mainly liquidation stuff so it's not the latest, but the prices are good. You just have to look to see what he has.

Ordered from them for the first time this week. Placed the order on Tuesday, arrived Friday. No problems at all. It was tough getting through to order, phone was busy. And yes, they do have good prices.

If you ask my wife, I've got too many small parts hanging around that I need to get rid of. ;)
I'm a cycling pack rat. I hope she doesn't see this thread or she would box it all up and send it to ya!
I've had much success with the third hand people in the past. I even hang on to the old catalogs they sent me. They are a great source of info.
Good Luck on your hunt!:)

I am trying to get my wife interested in cycling. If I succeed too well and she joins BikeForums, Joe will have to posthumously change my handle from Rainman to Deadman.
