I understand the need for simple black cycling shorts and a plain color jersey. Beyond that, especially in the extremes: colorful shorts, matching jersey with racing graphics, matching helmet and shoes, not to mention socks...
I don't get it (yet) Makes total sense for a team or racing though, but for Saturday recreational rides?

That's an interesting point. I suspect a large part of the reason that society sees exercise as torture is that with all our labor-saving devices, it has become something "extra" to do, rather than just what you have to do to live, as it was 100 or more years ago. We no longer have to chop wood, carry water, scrub and wring out clothes, help the horse push the plough through the fields... There was no need for health clubs back then!
The only torture I get is from looking at overweight people all day when I am out riding.
That I'm anti-car. Some cyclists may be anti-car but I am not. I own two cars, as a matter of fact.
But I am anti-waste: waste of resources, waste of money, waste of a chance to get outside and enjoy the weather.

Looking good dude.
I agree that most people think we are crazy or poor... but I like riding now. I used to run before I got married but found that after getting married I couldn't get my running in with all the other activities. So I found out about bike commuting. I have been hooked ever since my first ride in 2003. In college I had a bike but didn't ride it much. I got some rides (car) from friends. I do remember riding around town... but felt like a "second class" person or a kid for riding it. After thinking back I wish I used it more. I am now more educated about cycling and wonder why kids want cars... anyway... I know it is because their friends have it...which is pretty much true of everything...peer preasure etc... I like being different! I have a mac and support windows for a living! So I am totally going "against the grain".
Keep Cycling!

I see no shame in denying one anti - car..My right...Even if I plan to always have one...I just find driving cars a chore. Not fun anymore and about 1/4 of motorists are suicidal pshcyopaths. My right...
I do not feel cynical about the car because I am a cyclist, but because I am a motorist..Maybe I move to rural Kansas, I will change my mind and recall the old days of fun motoring.
Khuon..Cool socks..My favorite I guess. My green $ sign socks to go with my French bank, (bright green jersey) "Credit Agricoe." - wear what makes you feel good.

The best comment I ever got was from a crotch rocket rider calling me a nut for riding downhill on singletrack. The comment was right after he was telling me about his previous days 140 mph trip down the local highway.
Lets see, dirt impact at 30 mph, pavement impact at 140 mph.
Plus I love the comments about all my Pearl Izumi and Sock Guy socks when I'm changing into the workboots in the morning.

Cambria Bike has socks that say "Shut up and ride". White on black, perfect for riding. I really like the "Too poor for a car" comments. Poor us, with our custom made titanium tandem MTB. We have a car too, but the bike cost as much as the car. Personally, I don't care what other people think or say. Not only do I enjoy riding my bikes, but they account for a fair portion of my income right now. I took the summer off to hang out at the beach with my wife, and paid for it by importing bike parts.

And where's the Bento box?
I didn't have them at the time the picture was taken. Actually I don't use the Bento Boxes unless I'm hurting for space to carry stuff. I tend to use them more in the spring and fall because my back pockets fill up with arm and leg warmers so I have to relocate other stuff to the Bento Boxes. I also use them when I'm doing more social/cruising rides around town and the coffee-shop runs.

Probably the most common one I have experienced, is that all cyclists are yogurt eating vegans. They seemed totally perplexed when they learn that my favorite restaurant (one of the only restaurants I go to, actually.) is the Blue Ribbon Barbeque.
As for teens and cars, I agree with a member of the Massachusetts legislature, who feels that the minimum age for a driver's license should be raised to 20.

I had a coworker say we should be locked up.
Some not all and it is the same with all road users some drivers, motorbike riders and pedestrians should be fined heavely (spelling ?) and locked up.
And I am just wondering the road users who put themself at risk if they get hurt are they going to blame themself or others?

Hey, what about stereotypes about vehicular cyclists. You know stuff like...
We're lane hogs.
We always take the lane.
We adhere to the letter of the law.
We advocate "acting like a car".
We don't understand bike lanes are just like any other lane.

But what people pay in rego, road taxes etc doesn't even come close to fixing or improving roads.
