for criterium racing, once i start training i plan to do a 50 mile club run at average speed about 22mph and 2 2 hours sessions a week at a local tarmac velodrome, well would it be alrite to do interval training on light offroad, same effort but less speed, im asuming that as long as i am still getting practice at speed on road/track it is alrite to do some off road, but i want a second oppinion please!

I am not an expert but here we go.

Criteriums reach speeds of 25 - 26 MPH average, while you do not need to ride solo at 25 MPH average your 22 MPH rides will help. You need to do some criterium specific training though. I am not sure how the velodome will help but someone will shoot this way. I do some off road stuff, for fun and it does not get in the way of my training at all. Usually I get some MTBing in the morning to relax and make me ready for intervals or whatever comes later.

I would sugest you pick up a few good training books for racing. ]

On a side note I can sit in a 22 MPH and pull a 22 MPH group for sometime yet I am not at the fitness level to stay in a criterium yet. It really takes some serious criterium specific and competative cycling specific training to get to where you want to be. By that I mean, LT training, crit intervals, muscular endurance work, anaerobic work, etc.

i have been doing offroad for 2 and and a half years, its more like cyclo cross so im in good shape. I need to adapt to high speed and cycling in pace lines as i have not cycled on road for a year and even then it was a slow group! I rekin due to the mtbing i will be able to hold my own in cat 4 in no time (no cat 5 in uk)

I wish I was that confident. I am getting ready to start my third season of racing mountain bikes, fifth year of riding. I ride my road bike a couple thousand miles a year as well. I still don't think I am ready to try a crit, maybe next year though. :)

i was practicing to start doing xc racing but realising my technical skill was lacking, and that im genraly not as confident at things like that, or quick at learning i thought that switching to road was a better idea, especial as its more popular so large competions, just seems more fun! But please please hit me, i just passed up the oppertunity to buy a colnago, yes it was the real deal not only where the forks and chianset carbon, so was the frame, and it was campy record all round for £500 i am stupid, once again please hit me im going to regret this for so so long!

That does suck, if it helps the frame had a hidden crack in it that you would not have discovered until you were doing a downhill at 47.355 mph. Now that you know that rest assured you are much better off not buying it so you should be able to sleep at night now. ;)

seriously, i think the only consilation is the mediocre look of the bike, i like the bike to look good although not to flashy because not only will oyu stand more chance of getting mugged, it could have that "look at that ferrari" effect on car drivers, which can ultimitaly be dangerous for you if they concnetrate on your bike instead of the road! or should i say.... "look at that colnago" i think maybe my problem with the female drivers is the "look at that sexy guy effect" ;)
