Hello all. I've recently returned to cycling after replacing a stolen mountain bike with one of the indecisive hybrid bikes. It's great because I take it off rode a good bit during my wanderings through the "city" of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Not much of a city to speak of but I seem to have found the best this little place has to offer. There are plenty of places within a comfy ten mile radius for me to enjoy; ride by a park, swing by the library, drop in the Nu-Way for a burger and beer (I run on the cheap lo-octane fuel. My exhaust can be as lethal as a bus. :( ), visit a friend or my grandparent's grave (I'm not a goth, it's just a really nice old graveyard.), and then mosey on home, or swing by Ground Zero for a concert, conversation or vigorous volley with the hackey sack with some friend (even better when a stranger joins in). Let's not forget the Flea Market! The miles slowly add up and the next thing you know, I've had a great day.
Since I figure the rest of my posts will be about cycling, I'll tell you a little about the other things that make my world go round. I'm a music lover of many kinds. I won't be that guy that says he likes all kinds of music because I don't. Seems like that guy usually says he likes everything from Korn to Slipknot or maybe Phish to Ben Folds Five. But I do like some Husker Du, Roger Miller, Nomeansno, Charles Mingus, Merle Travis, Alice Donut, Benny Goodman, Dead Kennedys, the Who, Eddie Peabody, Utah Phillips, Impatient Youth, ZZ Top (the first four records at least), Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Deerhoof, Decendents, Minutemen, Plot To Blow Up The Eiffell Tower, and the list could surely start to generate cramping.
Besides enjoying listening, I also like to make my own music. I play bass and ukulele for the most part but also have many dust collectors that only get drug out of the closet when the mood to record hits me. Those include banjo, guitar, drums, xylophone, lap dulcimer, lap steel, melodica, thumb piano (I think it's called a kalimba?), autoharp, and whatever else I can get my hands on. I'm currently playing with JT and the Blame (http://jtandtheblame.com) (please pardon the spam). The two-piece structure is the most relaxing band environment ever. I'm trying to talk Josh into getting a bike so we can take them along on out of town gigs.
A good bike ride always clears my head and often find myself wanting to ride way past my bedtime, even if it's just practicing slow riding in a lit parking lot. I'm hooked!
