What do you guys/gals do to help relieve the pain from sore throats?

I have had this really bad sore throat for about 3 days. ALready went to see the doctor and he took a little swab and I got the results back today, it isn't infected.

Anyway, it hurts like crazy and I'm drinking about 2 gallons of water a day + orange juice + cough drops + some tea stuff my mom said would help.

Any suggestions??

Get some lemon juice and honey, heat them both and it will coat your throat. This helps alot.

Just pure lemon juice? or should I mix it with water?

I'm willing to try anything right now, it's driving me insane. I can't even talk:(

Believe it or not, best thing I found to kill a sore thorat is gargle straight Listerine (original kind, not diluted in any way).

I usually gargle two or three times until all of the phlem and mucus is stripped from my throat and the Listerine is in contact with the soft tissue. That's when it really gets in there and kills the bugs. After a day or so, no more sore throat. Original Listerine tastes like *$#@ though, but it works!

Gargle some salt or listerine to kill whatever's there.
Then sleep with a humidifier, it helps me if the air's too dry.

The humidifier would help alot I think.

I just took a shower and the steam in the bathroom made my throat feel a whole heck of alot better...

I'll try everything you guys posted(not at the same time of course) until it goes away.

I hate sore throats, they ruin everything since it hurts when you breath.

Patriot, what is original listerine? I have some of the green mint one but nothing that says "original" on it.

P.s. thanks for the help everyone!

It's like 27% alcohol. If you don't fix your throat, at least you'll catch a buzz...
Seriously, don't drink it.

whiskey.

My Greek wife's recipie is to heat it and add a little honey. Then gargle and drink it down. Does the trick.

..sometimes you can't get at the tickle in the post nasal drip area when you garggle.. a good thing to try is to take warm(I use very warm from tap) salt water.. and snort it up each nostril and spit it out several times.. this gets that place where nothing else touches.. and really opens up the sinus passages and permits the draining..

thanks for the help guys and gals:)

The sore throat is all but gone now, just a little tickle left over from my allergies. Some clariton clears that up easily enough.

Boil some hot water and add fresh or dried eucalyptus (spelling?) and inhale the steam. Of course, turn the water off first, but then just throw a towel over your head and breath the stuff in for awhile. It'll clear whatever sinus stuff is ailing you.

To clear your sinuses and everything else, some nice fresh wasabi from your local japanese restaurant.

If it ever happens again- in addition to the listerine, try Halls mentho-lyptus. Nicer to keep at the bedside at night for the sore throat from moth breathing that wakes you up.
