Looking for a multipurpose tire for my mtb. My trek store carries only Bontrager tires and the guy told me if I put a different brand on I will void the warranty on my mtb.

I do mostly city bike paths and hardpack trails. I also don't want a tire that will go flat riding through town. Which of these would best suit my purpose: 1) Bontrager Jones ACX; 2) Bontrager Connection; or 3) Bontrager Select Invert. Also, I looked on the mfgs website and cannot tell if all of these incorporate the kevlar technolgy. I've seen some posts referring to some of these tires as having such.

umm, I think your dealer is BS'ing you.

Putting a different tire on should definately NOT void the warranty.

I can't really really tell from the pics online but it seems like 1 or 2 would be your best bet. #3 is too slock for any real trail riding where you are getting any decent speed.

Go in to that LBS and ask what the most expensive tire he sells is? Once he brings it out, say I would really like to buy these at full retail price but it will void my warranty, right??

What a bunch of bull****! What's the name of your shop so we can TP it with shreds of old tires.

You can ride hardpack trails in slick tyres; a slick will go faster than a knobbly on well prepared flat surface but on a steep technical descent it will skit around more and slow you down. On the ascent a slick will spin at lower traction so you have to watch how hard you pedal but you can still ride.
Knobbly tyres really have a significant advantage on wet muddy trails and soft surfaces.
If you are sticking to well prepped non technical trails then go as slick as you want.

I have Kenda Kross which are 1.95 with a slick center and knobs on the sides. I ride mostly roads with some occasional fire roads. I could have gone with a regular slick but I don't care for the looks of a mountain bike with skinny 1" or 1.25" tires. Check them out, they're inexpensive too !

WOW!! Void the warranty if you put different tires on your bike. They are so full of $hit its not funny. If I were you I'd be wondering what other crap have they told me. I would definately find another LBS.
You put any tire on that bike you want (specialized hemishere 35-80psi) or the nimbus ex is slicker and works great on most recreational trails(low grade gravel or crushed stone)

IRC makes kevlar tires, the Mythos and Notos are XC tires and do o.k road, great hardpack, not so good in mud.
http://www.irctire.com/tires/mythos_xc_slick.html Maybe these? They are carbon aramid (kevlar) and have a built up sidewall.
