ok after proper torque is set on my headset and stem bolts are fully tightened, is it ok to further tighten the cap bolt? i seem to recall reading that after the headsets set and the stem is tight you can loosen/tighten the cap bolt without effecting the headset adjustment.
the stack of specers above my stem was causing some creaking, tightening down the cap bolt eliminates the noise but i just want to clarify i'm not messing up the headset.

Actually after tightening the pinchbolts you can even get rid of the topcap. Although this makes on-the-road readjustments a bit more difficult. The topcap isn't really needed following installation.
