I like Robert Rodriguez, graphic novels, Clive Owens and Benicio Del Toro, and I think Jessica Alba is hot...

Ah, but do you like Frank Miller?
Honestly, I'm not really too familiar w/ Frank Miller's work. I was into comics when the early graphics novels were coming out, but it's been about 10 - 15 years since I was a serious student of the art form.
My son saw it last night, Loved It. Looks great, I'll see it on DVD

Saw it a couple hours ago; thought it was spectacular for what it is. Not really my sort of movie, but I really enjoyed it.

I'm anxious to see it. "Ronin" came out when I was in 4th grade, and I've been a big fan of Miller's since. Although I find the "Sin City" some of his weakest stuff writing-wise, art-wise it's pretty amazing, and it seems like the movie really capture's his style.
I saw it with some friends last night, it was great! I thought it had a lot in common with "Pulp Fiction", sub-plots arranged together not necessarily in order of events. Makes me wanna read the Frank Miller books.
And yes, Jessica Alba is hot.

Lots of hot chicks and bad ass male character, visually brilliant, a couple of neat scenes, but it doesn't add up to a great movie. It lacks a cohesive story and could have been written much more tightly. A friend argued that it was a cinematic graphic novel and that's fine, but that only goes to show how weakly written graphic novels are.

Are you talking about the "Sin City" graphic novels in particular, or graphic novels in general? It's pretty ruthless to condemn an entire artistic medium because you're not a fan. I've never gotten into Jazz particularly, but I wouldn't say the entire genre was "bad".
The backgrounds looked good, the settings were well done and moody, the characters were well chosen, but not all of the stories came off good. Also, the movie dragged a bit like "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" kinda did.
Still worth checking out, though.

I loved it! I really liked how they even put the dialog from Miller's novels into the movie. I watched a show on the making of it the other day too. Apparently, when they were in pre-production they didn't even make any story boards (like they do in most movies), they just used the graphic novels as the story boards.
I the colour (or lack of) was really cool!
Benicio looked twisted! But not as twisted a Mickey Rourke! Tarantino was "GUEST DIRECTOR" too...I am not sure how he was involved, but you could definitely see shades of pulp fiction in the back and forth time shifts (as Dane mentioned above).
On the show I watched, Robert Rodriguez was talking about how he had to quit the Directors Guild to do this movie. Apparently they don't allow "CO-DIRECTORS" and Rodriguez made Miller a co-director to show his good intentions on not messing up the content of his novels (after movies like the HULK came out, Miller said that Hollywood would never get its hands on Sin City).
Anyways, as if you can't tell I'm a fan :)

I saw it last night, and thought it was pretty good. I've been a fan of Miller's since I was a little kid, and I thought there were absolutely no compromises made to bring this from the page to the screen. Most comic afficianadoes get annoyed by a lot of bits of the artist's vision that get lost. Batman, X-men and even Spiderman lost a little of their comic pace dialogue, etc to translate. "Sin City" was exactly like a Miller comic, only it moved.
"Sin City" is actually weak as far as Miller goes,(just MY opinion,) so I'd LOVE to see more of his better written, psychologically deep stuff get as good a translation. I'd always wondered what actor could portray The Batman from "The Dark Knight Returns" and after seeing Bruce Willis, I think we have a candidate! Oh, by the way, "Watchmen is in pre-production right now. Not Miller. Moore. Better.

I read somewhere that R. Rodriguez tried to get F. Miller officially listed as 'co-director', but his request was denied. (Had something to do with the Oscar, I think?)

He is listed as co-director, as is Quentin Tarantino.
