Introductions - newbie from philly

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

hey all,
just found the site today, been reading for the past hour and i had to sign up. lots of great info here.
i started mountain biking last year, but this spring i really want to get a road bike and do some long distance rides.
can't wait for spring to actually get here, though...sick of all the cold wet rain and cloudy skies. i need the sun!!!
Welcome. Don't buy the first roadbike you try. Usually on roadbikes you spend much more time in the saddle than you do on a mtb and fit becomes extremely important. Numb hands, numb feet, aching thighs, stiff neck, sore shoulders, sore butt are all signs of a bike that is not made for you. Ride several and rely upon a good bike fit expert to help you decide on the perfect bike for you.
Hi - another newbie from Philly here. Nice to see your post.
David's the name, I just switched from a hybrid to a Schwinn Voyageur touring road bike. I'm a bike commuter that likes doing Kelly Drive and Valley Green when I get the chance, and am looking foward to doing some light touring at some point.
Best Regards,
David
Haven't been to Philly since the early 70's. Glad you here.

jabike - thanks for the advice on finding the right road bike. i'm still looking...i have to admit that i saw the orbea vuelta in an LBS and fell in love, but i haven't gone back to that store on purpose. i need to find the right bike, not based on looks or name but on how it feels. (and the price has to be right, too...)
boogs - i ride in valley green all the time! usually i am on the upper trails trying to conquer my fears of jagged rocks and nappy roots! i've done the loop from northwestern to the art museum a number of times. it's a great ride. i personally think that valley green is one of the few redeeming qualities of philly.
webist - pretty sure not much has changed here since the 70's. ;)
