General Cycling Discussion - underwear underwhere?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I was out tootling around town and chanced on a trio of cyclists wearing jerseys and lycra, riding highend bikes. I don't always look at a guy's butt, but this one's shorts were sagging in the seat. I was like "how the hell do you get lycra to sag?" The light changed and they started off, the sag went a way, but there was a definate outline of briefs under his lycra cycling shorts.
I chuckled, and wondered if the bike store advertised on his shirt would appreciate his sagging shorts, or the briefs beneath.
Anyone else find this strange? Nothing comes between me and my chamios, well maybe a thin coat of udder butter, but that's it.

Strange? No. But ill-fitting shorts over briefs sounds like a recipe for some pretty nasty discomfort on a long ride.

If this guy has a serious case of Plumber's butt, then the briefs might be a good idea after all.
Say no to crack.
You never know what he had on unless you ask.
Myself, I wear Andiamo padded lycra undies under my cycling shorts. They are not like briefs, and could double for cycling shorts if they had a chamois. If you balk at paying more than $20.00 for cycling shorts like I do these will prevent any crotch wear from the cheap chamois they usually have. http://www.undyworld.mb.ca/ carries them and even with shipping they are cheap.
Or, he may have been wearing a pair of Andiamo padded briefs. You should have asked. Maybe you could have had a fun date out of it.:D

is it that bad, I usually would wear my brief then my cycling short
On fairly long utility rides, I often wear my cycling shorts as underwear.

A chacun son gout, I guess...
I couldn't imagine wearing briefs under my shorts. Cotton briefs must get very damp very quickly, and the chafing must be uncomfortable... Sort of defeats the whole purpose of bike shorts in the first place. But if you're comfortable, then that's al that matters.
pants...... im not wearing any pants :D

I don't wear briefs, but I do wear thin snug-fitting midlength coolmax shorts under my cycling shorts for my daily commuting. I feel like this extra layer protects the expensive shorts from body oil and grime so I can wear them 3-4 times before washing. As long as I hang them for throrough drying between uses they never develop an odor. Despite their snug fit these shorts seem may have caused some chafing on a longer ride of 50 miles so I don't wear them for long rides, just daily commuting rides that range from 9 to 25 miles.
I also wear coolmax t-shirts under my jerseys partly for the same reason, but also because is is just more comfortable even in our disgustingly hot and humid weather.

well they do get pretty damp but i sweat alot.. i dunno, it doesn't bother me, the only reason i wear cycling shorts is for padding not to stop chaffing

 Most cycling shorts have much better padding than any brand of underwear.

naisme, you should of had the decensy to tell this guy what the problem was, in order of saving him from further embarrasment.
You should have yelled out to him, "Hey butt sagger, you shorts are sagging bad man"! "Buy a pair that fits"! "You didn't crap your shorts did you"?
