View Full Version : I almost hit one...
NOt sure if I should say I nearly hit a cyclist - but it WAS a guy on a bike. I was entering a 4 lane main thoroughrare from a neighborhood entrance - which is divided by an island with shrubberys and a sign announcing the neighborhood name (smarmy as it is). This is a light controlled intersection - and I had the green as I approached - doing maybe 10-15. As soon as I clear the divider island I see a guy on a commuter type bike who's decided against stopping on red, I slam 'em on, as does he, and he stops short enough to circle toward the neighborhood while I proceeded ahead. No helmet - wearing headphones - running red lights at 5:15 pm on a busy street.
I'm glad I didn't hit him - but pissed at him nonetheless....

Click here (http://life-cycle.blogspot.com/2005/03/serenity-of-arrogance.html) for a similar incident that I had a couple of weeks ago (albeit a cyclist having to "slam them on" to avoid a pedestrian), and a few further comments. I just hope you don't let this get to you too much, Sounds like this guy was just an idiot. You've done all you could or needed to do by avoiding the collision, now it's time to move on and let Darwinism take care of the other guy.

Wow man, that's a bummer. I hope you're OK!
Guess I should clarify - I was driving my car - home from work. No worries about my safety, but I try to give responsible cyclists all the rights they're due - and then some. Guys like this one however just piss me off. If I was on the bike, I'd at least be able to yell - I encountered this guy with the windows rolled up.....
I had one similar one night..this one going against traffic, no headlights or relectors. I think he was eating a taco.

Yea..Taco's definitely lead to a complete disregard of social mores.
