I think the best sushi for the price is still Sushi On Bloor. Pretty bad service but it is great sushi and very cheap. I always get the Supreme bento box with salmon and it is 10bucks. If you check out their lunch specials, you get great maki for only 6bucks. Hard to beat.

And yeah, the clouds are super-dark and I can smell the rain coming, rats. I was gonna work on the junker that I found in the trash yesterday....needs new paint and brake cables and it is good to go.

simon sushi on spadina got a funny write-up in eye.. they basically could not believe how cheap it was. something about how the definition of "bargain" should come with a pic of simon sushi. on the other end of the scale, i've been meaning to check out kaji sushi on the queensway, but the ol' wallet is begging me not to.

Never been to Cycle Therapy I heard they don't build bikes but I LOVED that old bike you have hanging on the wall in the shop
You have a good eye. That is a track bike from the 30's according to Mike at Bicycle Specialties. A restoration project for the future.

Unless something is really weird it sounds like she turned onto him. Typical driver thing to do "I'm sorry I didn't see him as he was illuminated in my headlights."

LOSER of the night...ME!!!! Rolling up my street not quick at all. when I get to my house I usually roll up onto the sidewalk at the neighbour's driveway a few doors down. Last night is no different......accept for the part where I miss the driveway entirely and nuzzle my front tire against the damned sidewalk sending me ass over tea kettle into his driveway. Couple scrapes no damage, got up laughing, but goes to show ya.....all the skills in the world and still a tool.

Steeker: Cycle Therapy has new digs now with full bikes, etc. I'm sure Eyefloater could speak about that a little better though! :)

Also.. is anyone up for maybe a ride and some food tomorrow after work, and then we can head over to Jet Fuel together? Maybe we could ride out to the beach and grab some food out there someplace, just for a non-Kensington change of scenery. I don't know that area too well, but it looks like a good place for a beer and some food on a sunny Friday!
I'm in but I can't get out of the shop till 6. Patio's might be a bit tough to come by if the weather is nice. I used to go to the patio at the Beach Bar all the time...dont know if that is still the name of the joint.

TJ: hahahaha.. nice. I had "a moment" on my way home yesterday too. I was approaching a small intersection on Harbord that usually doesn't have traffic turning out of.. I had a red-light so I slowed down a little, but didn't expect anyone to be coming.. sure enough a car is speeding up to make the light. I went to do a little skip/skid speed-check to just time myself going through just behind him and my right foot totally disengaged from the pedal. D'oh! Of course, since I was pulling up on that side my foot went up to about level with my top-tube and I looked like a total ******.. not to mention the fact that I didn't quite brake in time and made a really sloppy one-footed turn up the street to avoid the guy. I think it's because I said recently that I'd never had a problem with my eggbeaters giving me "premature release" (heheheh). I jinxed myself!

Oh, and then, about 5 minutes later I'm turning right onto my street.. got a green light.. some peds (just typoed that "pdfs", I need a vacation) start crossing against the light so I speed past them and turn right pretty late.. of course I get a nasty case of pedal strike and wind up running with my bike as I'm pitched forward/sideways. One of those times I'm glad I took the "slightly more standover clearance" route when choosing a frame as the next higher size was a little too close for comfort and would have been nasty in this case where I wound up running with the top tube up by the goods. :P

cavernmech: yeah, that's what I'm thinking. But I figure if a few of us show up early enough we should be able to secure a table. We can just hold you a spot until you show.

Anyone else in for tomorrow?

Just go out and smell the air, look at the maple leaves in the morning. If they are turned over upside down it's going to rain, old native trick...it's true.

the leafs are different from one side to the other and you can tell the way they curl when they are upside down

hm, lesson learned. i didn't happen to see any maple leaves today, what's the verdict.

has anyone elese used ups for shipping a frame? i just received one where the seller used this carrier. he shipped tuesday (from the US) and it arrived today! he picked up most of the shipping tab so i didn't mind that but i was suprised that a large frame like that arrived so soon. is that normal?

Certainly sounds like something like that, anyway. The southbound on Lockwood has me puzzled though, given the intersection. It makes me wonder if he was in the crosswalk

Sounds like even more reason to be able to see and avoid him. What's wrong with all these people?

Hrm, well, upon closer inspection, this bike needs more work than I am prepared to put into it. It is comfy to ride and only needs brake levers to be street-worthy (it shifts through all 6 gears fine) but you can see that it is pretty rusty. I think it used to be a SuperCycle but has been repainted at least once, so it is probably a stolen bike. The rust is pretty intense but I guess that some paint could make it look nicer but it will always be a rusty POS underneath. I am going to offer it to a friend and if she doesn't want it, it is open to a good home.

Jabbering on the cell phone likely or just driving too damn fast. The speed people drive in this city is really annoying.

It's annoying as another driver too when you have other cars riding 6" off your bumper. I drive the speed-limit, I'm not a granny, but it happens ALL the time.

It looks like Lockwood may line up with a pedestrian path:

If you enjoy the cow slab as I do I highly recommend the Banknote at Bathurst and King. They do an excellent Angus strip with mashed and grilled veggies for like $22. Myself and the girl go there very regularly and have never been disappointed.

So, here's the start of my new Vehicile ****list. I'm thinking it might be a fun project for a website, actually. A database of license plate numbers, car descriptions, and event descriptions. Then you could search by license plate number and find out if the same car has been involved in multiple run-ins.. and perhaps we could even have an option for the drivers to defend themselves (and then get ripped to shreds of course).

****list Vehicle #1: 505 8LN. Light blue dodge (I think) pick up. I'm making a left from Harbord onto Ossington. I shoulder check, see a pickup truck about 100' back. I signal left, and move in the center of the lane. As I approach the intersection (very much a red light) I start slowing down, and down a couple little (and I mean little) "swoops" to bleed of a little more, and quite honestly, because it's fun. :) Just as I start the little swoops I can feel/hear the truck is starting to pull into the curb lane and
I assume he's going to make a right turn. I stop and I hear a voice. I look back and the truck is straddling both lanes and the driver has the window down and is looking straight at me. I roll back a couple steps and say "what's goin on?" (in a friendly way, not a confrontational way.. kinda like "What's up?").

him: "what are you doing?"
me: "ummm.. turning left?"
him: "you shouldn't be swerving all over the road"
me: "I was just slowing down"
him: "you shouldn't be swerving all over the road" (I don't know if he repeated it exactly, but close enough)
me: "I moved this much!" (holding hands a foot apart)
him: (incoherent grumbling)
me: "Why? were you trying to pass me 25' from an intersection with a red light?"
him: (more incoherent grumbling)
me: "you know, 3 cyclists have died already this year because of this type of behaiviour"

==light turns green==

I start peddling and of course he passes me in the middle of the intersection. I point at his license plate, he flips me the bird.

*sigh* Just felt like sharing the story is all. Apparently deaths have no effect on people in a hurry!

cavernmech: yeah, that's what I'm thinking. But I figure if a few of us show up early enough we should be able to secure a table. We can just hold you a spot until you show.

Anyone else in for tomorrow?

I'm in, just list out the when and wheres.
I can get down by about 4:30-5:00

Just got an e-mail from the H.R. person at City. Mr impatient truck driver apparently got a stern lecture and a warning on his employment record. I am going to assume this actually went down and puts a serious smile on my face.

^^^^^sweet^^^^

I totally want to blaze with some electrical engineering geeks and get out the paper and pencils. I want a glove of power that will direct an electromagnetic pulse through my fingertips into the engine compartment of knobs that might be liable to cause death. Instantaneous vehicular death as all circuits are fried beyond salvage.

I mean what's wrong with these people, can't they see 'oh yea...I could kill him by accident' "ah **** it..it'l be close bit I can make it, DAMN he scratched my bumper"

anyone could have been killed there soooo easily.... bikers, drivers, passengers, it wouldn't have mattered. Glad to see the cops were right on top of things *dripping sarcasm*
