Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

UPS is awful for shipping bikes. We've made numerous complaints about their lack of care w/ bike shipments. Axles poking through, holes punched/torn in boxes is actually common with them. Avoid them at all costs if possible.
So umm ... I'm a total dork. I finished up the bike this morning and took it for a quick spin around the neighbourhood before I started work. It's lovely. :) At some point today I need to track down a dual pivot front brake that I can slap on, but then I'll be out and about tonight after 7pm if anything's going on. The temporary saddle is an old San Marco Rolls (yellow) that will likely get replaced by a ridiculously expensive Brooks Swift (honey/brown/black? dunno).

Awesome! Can't wait to see it. You've got my cell number I think, so give me a ring if you want to hook up. I think I might drop by the shop and say 'hi' anyway. Do have my brake lever, ya bastard? :)

Doesn't customs open your package? Why would UPS open something?
i agree.. it's totally up to customs if they open up a package or not. i've been burned and i've got away with stuff too. i think they're more prone to open large packages too. what sucks is that it's up to whomever is checking the package to put a value on it. oooh look! carbon! must be expensive. $$$$.

I love the skidstrong setup on their site with the lime green rims and those On-One Mary bars. Looks like it would be a really fun city ride. http://www.gaansari.com/skidstrong/what.htm
yeah, i like that set up too. those mary bars are the **it. i'd love to get a pair for the new pink bike. not sure what's going to come of that brand though. i heard gaansari is closing its doors and gary is going to work for ritchey.
i'm too excited about this build; i'm taking the afternoon off to finish it.

As long as it is a 3 piece master link that is o.k. I had some guy come in the shop with a shredded rear wheel.....he used a sram 3/32 chain on his fixie with the sram powerlink. The first time he gave a hard back-pedal the crap came right off and wound itself between cog and spokes. Not pretty.

i've used them with no problems, but i cavernmech is right, use the kind that have to be installed with a chain tool, not the bmx masterlink style you can take off with pliers.

I've got the sram removable link on all 5 of my bikes, including my 2 fixies, and one SS mtb. Never had a problem with any of them, and I love being able to pull the chain off quickly to clean it.

There's also an unofficial TBN ride at 6:30. We could hit that up for any arbritrary amount of time.
Edit: Says it's going to rain tonight wtf.

did i say 80' bridgestone? i meant olde-tymey highwheeler. i'm waxing my handlebar moustache as we speak, and doing squat thrusts in preparation for riding my velocipede (it came with new fangled nuematic9sp) tires).
yeah it's a 67, like i said i'm long-legged; there's still a good 6-7" or seatpost showing.

Yep. Both Fuji models...track and track pro, the regular track model is getting thin for sizing. IRO mark V's..altho I only have 1 in stock...expecting more middle of the week. A couple of used frames.

I hear you. It is scary to drop a chain on a fixie, brakes or not. Even if you don't crash, it can really chew the crap out of your equipment.
From my POV, the sram link is well designed and it doesn't worry me even on my brakeless wonder. I hope that my trust is not ill founded. (now I'm really setting myself up aren't I? I predict catastrophic masterlink failure within 20 km)

If anyone has a cheap dual pivot front brake they want to get rid of, bring it by Cycle Therapy today and I'll toss you some cash. We don't have any used options here and Ultegra is just a biiit out of my price range.

Girl on fixie = bike boy magnet.
Thus I have learned in the past 5 months. Just now, riding home and waiting for the light, a guy comes through the intersection on a Fuji track, gives me a "hey there pretty lady" look, and pulls a showy fishtailing skid. Not that I'm getting big headed. I'm pretty sure if we gave Eyefloater a blonde wig with pigtails and got him to ride his new Pake around downtown for awhile, he could score 5 numbers in under an hour.

Well, since I posted about spotting you within an hour and got branded a stalker, I'm going to have to agree with you. heheheh. In all honesty though I think "anyone on a fixie = anyone-else-on-a-fixie magnet"... or perhaps "fixie = interest". I've never talked to so many strangers on the street since I started riding fixed last year. Both other fixed riders as well as just curious people. Not to deflate your head. hahahaha. Being a girl obviously ups the ante though, that's for certain. :D
