I don't think the Mayor of Toronto can do anything about cyclists deaths in Mississauga and Brampton (3 of the 5 cyclists killed in 2006 were in Peel Region)

Truer words were never spoken, I was so pissed off yesterday as to transcend borders...
I got an actual reply from a councillor that mentioned the subject matter and even contained a spelling mistake. He ACTUALLY read it and says he's passed it off to the chair of some blah blah blah.

Now I will inundate him with requests for access to the committee. Oh yes.....

I noticed on the top tube of the Fuji "track"s the word track was totally in the Courier font, had to have been a manufacturing error. Nobody uses that font for ANYTHING. Still wanting one.

This from the toronto.ca website:

Does the demerit point system apply to cycling offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)? In a word, NO. But does it happen? Yes, it can. Here's how it works. Cyclists and motorists can be charged under the HTA, with similar fines applying to both ($90 for most infractions).

Section 56 of the HTA allows the province to cancel or suspend drivers' licenses through a demerit point system. However, this applies only to infractions committed while driving a motor vehicle or streetcar. In order to avoid demerit points inadvertently being assigned to your drivers license for an infraction committed on your bicycle, the following must occur:

* The police officer laying the charge must write "bicycle" in the vehicle type box on the Provincial Offenses Notice.
* If you go to court, the courts must indicate "bicycle" in the vehicle type box on the conviction notice.

If the Provincial Offenses Notice or the conviction notice is received by the Ministry of Transportation without the "bicycle" designation, demerit points will be assigned to the driving record of the individual. If this happens, call the Driver Improvement Office at 416-235-1086 to have the error corrected. Better still, follow the rules and you won't get a ticket in the first place.

The careless driving ticket is pretty much the highest cost ticket there is. If he goes to court he can probably cop to a speeding ticket if the cop shows.
i'm gonna go out on a limb and say the cop doe not show. He knows careless will never stick and is just being a (typical) power tripping a$$.

There are ton's of places to train down here why don't you come to the Beach and try our hills and there is the spit and bluffers park too
Sure there is a ton of hill's but real training means being able to go steady...no stopping...for extended periods of time. Even a cross race...which is about the fastest time wise....takes at least 50 minutes. Where can you go hard for 50 minutes non-stop in Toronto?

Alright, so the next step for track day: when??

I know we've had a couple of "not yet" type requests, which is totally fine.

Cavernmech: how's your schedule work for this sort of thing? Will you just get one of your peeps to hold down the fort?

Track 1 is every Saturday from 2-4, and we apparently need to pre-reg. If we want to stay for the evening races there are NO races on May 20, June 10, and June 24.

ps. damn, I wish this place was like half as far, since Track 2, 3, and 4 are all on weeknights... as well as the Rec times.

A woman I work with just saw me on the Forest City webpage and said that a friend of hers does track racing and she's nearly sure she races somewhere in the GTA. Is it possible there's a private track somewhere? She said it's not in the core, but maybe in Mississauga or something. I asked her to find out more.

My weekend sked is pretty much centered around mtn bike racing right now. After this weekend May is pretty much open...in June the weekends of 3/4 and 24/25 I am racing. Any other weekends are good for me. Is there any possibility that we could do a LTR 1 and 2 in one day? I thought they did offer a one day course with both LTR 1 and 2 in the same day. If we are a big enuf group they might be willing to accomodate us with a extended one day type of thing. As for spectating....I will be honest with you and say after about an hour of watching guys go around in circles it gets a little tired. I LOVE watching but perhaps if we plan on a day with no racing...and we have a decent sized group...we can get in more riding. Just a thought.

Horrendous would be a better description. We used to go down there and camp in the infield for the weekend.....good times. It is a shame really...it is a nice track to ride when it isn't full of grass filled cracks. There has been talk of resurfacing but at $50k plus it hasn't moved forward.

Cavernmech & somnambulant have the transport so when ever for me. I can cancel anything (not that i have anything to cancel)
Looks like we need to do level 1 so it needs to be a Saturday & if there races or not doesn’t matter to me but would be cool if there was so long as we can get out there and have some fun.
Cheers
If i can bring my bike i will but will happily rent & happy to help with gas

I think I have found my image for the Toronto Fixed Riders Group flyer.
Is that the name?

As in us on BikeForms?

Subject: Info....

Hello Mr Good:

I'm enquiring as to whether or not you have the capability to accommodate a
bunch of riders bussing in from Toronto to ride your wonderful track.
We're a bunch of friends in Toronto that love all forms of cycling, and
most
are fixie riders here in the city.

We have a variety of skill levels from racers to velo newbies, so I know
some introduction to the track will be required. I can't speak of numbers
of
scheduling as of yet, but I'm trying to figure out how many people can
realistically fill a session. We'd love to be a party as it were.

Any information you can supply me would be wonderful.
Thank-you.

Andrew Mills

Hi Andrew, we can accomodate up to 20 riders in a session. Fee is $20 for
the session (usually 2hours min.) and $10.00 bike rental. Look at the
calander on the site pick a Saturday that has racing at night and make
arrangements to come on down and have a "Blast"

Just let us know the numbers and date.
