Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I agree with you most of the shops give you attitude here in downtown. Dukes and Sportinglife included..But as far Cavern Cycles is concerned i dont think youll find a better shop..And Kieth is the most helpful guy in town...i m sure as he said it was one of the guys he hired that gave you the snub but ask anyone here on this forum . And everyone will say go to Kieth at Cavern Cycles for not only IRO but everything. I have bin bugging him for the last 2 months with questions for an IRO and fixed gear. And he has bin veyr straight forward and helpful . And he knows what hes talking about. So dont penalize the guy coz of someone he hired. It can happen to anyone.

See, this makes a lot more sense to me. I couldn't figure out how Cavern stayed in business if the guy that owned it was a prick to his customers. I don't even know who I talked to, but it was probably Mr. Long Gone. It's good to hear something back from the shop this quickly though - that's bonus points for class.

hey, "guy I met at CM on the IRO": I saw you today at Spadina & Front. You were right in front of me while I was waiting for the light to change going West on Front. I was going to beep, but I thought you'd probably think I was just some guy in a car with road rage. :)
ps. I assume you're on here, I can't remember if we talked about bikeforums or not.. :)
Yeah, that's me. Funny, I probably would have busted some bike rage too-hate it when people honk at me:)

yeah, a couple of years ago, there was this guy working at Carvern Cycle, and boy he got some attitutde, I didn't go there any more for sometime, then I got a flat tire near sherbourne and Adelaide, and with such a luck, I didn't bring a spare tube with me and it was almost 5 or 6 P.M. and the guy was closing shop, he said he was closing shop and asked me what I need told him I need an inner tube and the guy gave an inner tube and told me to just pay the next day coz he was in a hurry, I was able to fix the flat and the next day I went back and pay the tube he gave me. He is not the same guy, who gave me the attitude a couple of years ago...

Anyone know where to get 3/16 grade 25 bearings similiar to the ones (well exactly) on Sheldon Browns site? He wants $50 min + $17 for shipping to canada even though the bearings themsleves are like 5 bucks.

When I need bearings in a hurry and dont have them in stock I call Motion Industries,200 Queens Quay, unit 2, 416-465-8250. If they dont have them in stock they should be able to get them for you within a day or 2. Dont know how prices stack up against Sheldons tho. K.

This is a licensed hall but refreshments will be very affordable. The location is just south of King Street.

Hey Oscar, I'm doing fine. What's new with you?
I haven't been riding as much as I'd like the past couple of months. Got into a bit of smash-up with a car in early June (fixie, not the roadie)....
so I've been trying to finish up this project as quickly as I can...

Loose screws (http://www.loosescrews.com) sells chromium bearings for around $3-4 US per 100. They also have a mixed package of a number of different sizes. I thought sheldon's prices a little steep. I'm not sure how that plays out against Motion's after shipping.

7 hours lol :|
The last 50km was so boring, you can't believe it. North access road next to the QEW all the way to St. Catharines + head wind.
And this morning coming back I got soaked to the bone twice and then I flatted west of sauga. So then I cheated and didn't complete the back to back century.

i've been looking for one since march! a bunch of stores suggest putting your name on a waiting list which might improve your chances, but it's hardly a guarantee. i think it's more a matter of timing. i've randomly gone into stores and have been told that they had a shipment in a week ago and sold out, or that they will be getting a bunch in in a week.. for what it matters, i was shopping for groceries in kensington last week, stopped by bikes on wheels and they said they'd be getting "more" locks in this week. -e

Too effing heavy for me. If I know I'm going to be locking my bike up for any extended amount of time, I just ride "White Sputter" (****e bikes unite!). Otherwise, I'm all for short u-locks and keeping eye out the window of whatever building I'm in for the moment.
Of course, my u-lock's going to give before that juggernought of a chain ... so *hi5* for showing your bike the love it deserves.

actually.. you'll be amazed how well the weight is distributed when you wear it around your waist. it's also pretty good as a visual deterrent. pair it up with a mini-u around the rear wheel and chances are the thief will go for easier pickings.

Hey all,
Couldn't make it out tonight - I was at the studio until 9:30.
Thanks for all the kind words regarding my bike. The story behind it is basically just that I traded in a lot of old components, etc. I had sitting around to a guy in Kensington Market that does bike recycling (Mike, not George). That got me a decent amount of credit, which I used after digging through his piles of parts on a few occasions. I stripped the frame, repainted it "Recreational White" and then traced the lugs with a red enamel. Most of the parts are no-name, but the pedal setup is high-end Suntour ($10, found in a bin at the bike shop I'm pseudo working at). I pieced the chain together myself using a few links at a time (Mike buys his chain in bulk, but someone working on a jewelery project had sweet-talked him into letting them take a bit of it apart - they went ... overboard). The bars are just a set of cruiser bike bars that I thought would work well flipped over - they do. The saddle has been owned by at least 2 other people before me (it just keeps getting passed around) and is held together in the back by some artfully wrapped duct tape. Pedaling cadence on this bike is an exercise in humility and comedy. I think the gearing's something like 46/20 ... so I'm the guy pedaling down Queen or Dundas east at 120rpm everyday.
Aaanyway, some drunk neighbour just showed up at my door asking for an icecube (yes, AN icecube) so I think I've got some other issues to attend to now.

Ps. This bike's a beater through and through, but a lot of love when into it - sh!te bikes unite!

eyefloat, nice job on the beater. it's quite the effort you put into that thing. i see a red track drop out peeping out from the left side of the pic wanted attention.....................?
in other news, i was rushing to meet some buddies, speeding west on queen, crossed the streetcar tracks to pass a guy on a bmx, caught a rut when merging back into the lane, flew over the bars. got a scrape on the temple, twisted my wrist, and the worst thing: somehow managed to twist my stem/bar to the left..i'm worried about busting the quill even though it feels relatively tight. that should be the least of my problems because i can barely lift anything with my right hand.. so much for riding anytime soon even if i do get the bike fixed. i'm coming over on monday keith!!!
hey, i'm steps from the cavern/sneaky dees place at niagara/king.. anyone coming out?
