Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Its a bit of a hike but Coppi Boutique is worth a visit....tons of old stock stuff. The guy who runs the place use to ply me with homemede grappa whenever I would visit him. Cool place.....its on Henri Bourassa East if I remember correctly.

Hey guys, anyone up for a ride tomorrow (Sunday?) sometime around noon or later
Hey-lo
after a brief stint off the bike this summer, I'm back. Hey operator, what are you riding these days? A fixie?
We should do a ride one of these days...

Haha no, just my bianchi road bike. I have enough funds to build up a fixed over the winter - evaluating options now (looking for a frame actually nothing too $ to use as commuter/utility bike).

Hey Rob
What size frame? I have a 55 cm Nishiki Olympic hanging in the garage.

OOh 54.
Not sure if I want to do a conversion or a build up from a track frame. Been trolling bike shops and CL for some frames. But CL sucks.

There is a spring and fall bike show. The spring bike show is all full priced new stuff the bike shops and companies want to flog off to suckers. The fall bike show is when all the shops and companies try to get rid of their old stock at rock bottom prices. Anyways, its on saturday. I'll be going nice and early unless I end up going camping that weekend. If that happens I'd be extremely grateful if someone could pick me up a set up eggbeaters, a rear blinkie light and some track handlebars.

I was thinking about riding if the weather doesn't suck. Last year I drove and found paying $10 for parking inconvinient. :P So, unless someone wants to carpool and go in on parking with me, I think I'll be riding. What was inconvinient about it?
And yeah, the coffee place is in Kensington Market right at the corner of Baldwin/Augusta. My fav. coffee joint in Toronto (so far) for sheer brew quality.. :)

If your confortable in chaining your bike in a bike rack, then its okay, but if not then you have to bring your bike inside the place and the security Guards won't let you in with a bike, and if you have a nice bike you don't want to chain your bike outside. Right. I will be riding the good old reliable TTC

that's a really good point. i won't have piece of mind browsing for stuff knowing my bike's up at the cne. i rode the rocket last year and it wasn't too bad. you'd think they'd at least have bike attendants/valets at a bike event....

Basically just ride around the course laughing at people... well not really :D
All you have to do is ride around and report anything that happens - godzilla attacks, earthquakes, tsunamis or any other emergency related to the runners. (nothing happened last year).
Update: The meeting is at 7pm at the Holiday Inn on King st. on the 2nd floor (King and Peter, 2blocks east of spadina).
I'll also come on Saturday for the bike show - when/where you guys meeting up? Does anyone live really close to the show and we can all just stash our bikes there and walk to the show itself?
Edit: Hey shiznaz did you know UT has this bike repair thing at the OISE. They have a set of parktools you can use for free.

i work on king between spadina/bathurst. it's not that close but is definitely ttc-able. you guys are more than welcome to stash your bikes at my work. however.. i'm not sure if i'll be riding down since i have to replace my front wheel which i haven't even taken to the shop yet. if i can't ride, i'll most likely take the ttc all the way down.

Boo ... it's all about the Moonbeam Cafe (3 doors east of Kensington & St. Andrew). I'm a big fan of their somosas and borekas.
Edit: I'm working on Saturday - which blows because it would have been nice to meet some of you jackasses. Ahh well, my better half will be there with her shopping list as well as mine.

bah! faema on dupont best...it was always nice getting calls to 372 on slow summer days knowing a good coffee on a sunny patio awaited. although moonbeam and 'the other one' on the corner are great, too! and jet fuel with the lattes and fresh-squeezed lemonade...and the back yard. or clafouti with their croissants. how i miss toronto!
I can't make it, I'm out of town doing a blacksmith course. Moonbean gets my vote too.

yeah, if none of you yahoos are interested in meeting I'm getting my butt to clafouti for some croissants! :)
The offer still stands though if anyone wants to meet up on bike or foot, before OR after. I've got zero plans during the day on Saturday so I'm trying to find something to do. Can you tell? :)
edit: I'll also have to check out Moonbeam sometime soon by the sounds of it. And Faema is potentially on my way to work (not on my usual route, but that could change).

hmmm.... Looks like weekend is calling for poor weather, which means I'm not going camping (camping is 90% weather). So that means I'll be able to hit up the bike show AND the ski and snowboard show! Thanks for the kind offer Gokiburi, but I guess I'll see you there. I'm up for coffee beforehand or whatever, but I'm not a morning person so I may be a little out of it.

it's on st.andrew at kensington. st.andrew is the first street north of dundas on the west side of spadina. look for the big yellow building (it's on the corner of spadina/st.andrew). walk all the way down and moonbeam is a bit before the corner. i'm pretty sure we biked by it on the way to parts unknown.
i can make it for 9-915am saturday morning.. so it's the moonbeam then?

Haha, sweet. I live literally at Kensington and St. Andrew. I have to work at 11am, so I'll be able to stumble downstairs and say hello before I head to work. There's a nice patio at the Moonbeam out back and of course the tables out front. I'll see you guys then.
And Somnabulant, I'm be interested in heading to the Forest velodrome. I don't have anything worthy of riding there right now, but I'd still be up for just getting there and renting a bike. I'm guessing if we did go we'd all have to do "Velodrome 101" or whatever their ultra-beginners course is before they set us loose.

You will definitely have to do the track 101 before you are allowed to ride the track. They usually run these on Sat mornings starting at 9 but also often have a second one in the aft. The rental bikes are getting a little beat up from all the "101" use but better to beat up a rental than yer own learning. Buy the crash insurance in case you do go down so you dont have to pay for damage. A bunch of us are heading down in a couple of weeks.....maybe everyone who wants to go can get together and do a little car pooling?

Cool, I might be up for that depending on what weekend it is. I have a car also, so I'd be willing to help with car-pooling. I don't have a bike rack right now though, so it'll have to be rentals. :) My bike has brakes anyway, so it'd be a pain to make it trackable.
