Re: race tomorrow.
Anymore info about that. It starts at that park (can't recall), ends on the island ... how about start time, registration fee, etc?
I won't even ask about prizes unless someone knows what DFL wins. ;)

registration is at 2 P.M. Race starts at 3 P.M. Cloud Park..Temperance Street.
Traditionally DFL prize is training wheels. :D
Registration fee is usually $5...won't be more than 10

is anyone here for sure going? I wouldn't mind going to spectate, but I'm trying to take it easy on my knees so I may try not to ride at all.

I am unsure at the moment. My fill in guy has been sick all week so I might get trapped in here all day tomorrow. That and I have a rock and roll show to go to tonite which of course means many many beers. Have to play it by ear. My traffic skills are not what they used to be since my accident so I wouldn't be a favorite for victory. I have 5 past alley cat wins to my credit so I will let one of the young un's take the glory :D If they had an "Old Git's" class I would be there for sure. ;) I will be at the after party for sure tho.

Probably not. Bit too sketchy to take the Lemond for that. In theory it would be entertaining to watch Keith drop me in traffic, but that would last for all of two seconds before he'd be out of sight. ;)

Either Keith or T.J. should make an appearance at this race - you two are the only ones w/ any hope of actually doing well (Mitch, how are you in traffic?) ... I'm just going to try to make it out for comedic effect, but the intimidation factor is through the roof.

not yet; like i said the screening is at 12, so a couple hours before that for food / beer / ride time. i have to walk a friend's dog around 8 or so, so maybe any time after 9 would be fine with me. i'll PM you my cell #.

Seriously.....you guys all ride in traffic every day. Don't count yourselves out prematurely. Identify the fast guys....suck wheel mercilessly....sprint past at line....gather glory and hot girl's phone numbers. You might not know the city as well as the fast messers...or have the skill to lead thru traffic..but several of you are certainly fast enuf to hang in and follow. My first race ever I sucked the wheel of Kevin Lehman..he of the tree trunk legs that does the donut on a fixie...he was the fast guy back then. I stayed with him till I made an error in route and got second. If I had of just stayed on his wheel I could have won that one.
I am not sure who is showing as far as fast guys go but look for one of Jim Kuz..Dave Byers..Kevin Black. Some of the recent winners are out of town but if any of these guys show up they are the ones to stick with.

Diaz....man that cat was fast...whooosh. ^^^ and yes those legs of the Kevin...once he spun up it was hopeless^^^ Word to Keith's tactics, like many races, the winner generally doesn't lead the whole way. I never how how the check points are going to work. If it's an intersection non messers are right in there. If it's addresses then the messer MAY have a slight leg up. But like Dirk Gently says "I just follow someone who looks like they know where they are going and I eventually get to me destination." IF the finish is the island .... it's gonna be a sprint finsh as you'll mostly all gather at the ferry dock. Save some gas.
My wife is outta town, so I'll be hangin with my little/not-so little daughters and doing stuff here and there. Otherwise I'd totally be down for it. hmmmm Maybe I'll come down for the start with the kids.

Another tip....the Island ticket counter will no doubt be busy....go buy a ticket for the ferry before you go to the start. When you get to the ferry you can bypass the ticket line-up and go straight to the ferry line. Be first on the ferry and go straight to the front gates...when you reach the Island you will be first off the boat.

Oh and if I haven't said it already, after going to FC I really REALLY want to ride the Figure8 track.
How is the location of the CMWC decided? Does anyone know? I seem to remember it being the winner of a competition or something.. but I could be getting that mixed up with the SSWC.
I wonder if having the CMWC here again would bring out the Figure 8.. or vice-versa I wonder if bringing out the Figure 8 could bring the CMWC back here.

i think i remember seeing Kevin pass me as he was leading a paceline at 45km/hr at the TNT hairshirt ride last year. i heard him refer to the ride somewhere as "a tounge in the spokes hammerfest". uh....huh. i rode the whole thing solo and came in at 14 something hours. i quite literally don't know how those guys go so fast.

don't you just sort of put a proposal together and present it to some sort of messenger-based committe? i think the SSWC are decided by some random game involving beer chugging and awkward male nudity (as all good things are), also probaly has something to do with the winner of the current race.

Although I probably won't get one, might I suggest "in unum veritas". Velo in latin means cover or conceal (more or less), not bicycle, and unum means one which covers both ss and fixed.

Doubtful. CMWC has nothing to do with HPR. There is a bidding process for CMWC host. It is decided at Cmwc Open Forum where the next one will be. Seeing as this year is Australia...and you must be there to bid...it is unlikely to come back to Toronto any time soon. Add to that a successful CMWC organization requires at least 10 dedicated individuals to do the required work ie: permits..sponsors..route and course close..police etc...it is a real undertaking. when we did it in 96' we had a huge group of messers that put in a ton of work to make it happen. I frankly don't see the current messer community making it happen.

it's a double imperial century, 200 miles so about 322kms. TBN puts it on once a year. route runs pretty much out and back to niagara falls.
if anyone's interesed in doing it, it's running june 25th this year.
EDIT: from the TBN site: "As of June 15, 20 cyclists are already registered for this year's ride, including one who will be riding a fixed gear"
so who is it? who here's doing the hairshirt?
