Haha! I was thinking the exact same thing.
On another note, I have a 11am meeting at 2001 Drew road tomorrow (directly across from the west side of Pearson airport). How long would it take to ride there from downtown and what route would be the best? I am imagining it would be very difficult and dangerous but I could be wrong... I need to confirm whether I want a taxi ride before the end of the day.
i'm all for riding, but that can't be the most scenic route. i would imagine it's all highway out there. and the sweat factor...

Thats essentially what I said to my coworker who is organizing this:
"I was thinking of it, but I have no idea how long it would take to ride out there and the thought of riding on those inner suburban multi lane arterial roads puts a chill down my spine. That and I don't have my wardrobe at sylvania (like I do here at work), so I would be very sweaty and looking like a bike courier for the meeting. In an ideal world I totally would though."

It only takes about 45 mins to get to the airport at a respectable clip, but there isn't a "good" route. I've had (volunteered) to deliver out there a few times and it's just ugly with sub-urban and industrial ugliness with drivers/streets to match. The average car speeds are higher and the outside lanes are as slim as any other. Unless your doing it strictly for the exercise take a cab cause it's just plain not a fun ride once you're past egg & duff
[edit] it did make me homesick for houston though, outside of downtown much of toronto is car city, sadly

We need to ban all non essential cars from the downtown core. **** cars. Make every single road right lane for bicycles/buses only.

And make the HOV right-lane the width of two regular lanes; like Don Mills!

I went and saw the 'scorchers to alleycats' exhibit at the st. lawrence market today. It was a good little show; I didn't realize how much of a history of cycling Toronto has... Some absolutely pristine and beatiful century plus old bikes there too. I used to think that people who buy colnagos, De Rosas, Cinellis etc. to mothball in the closet were evil... but I never would have seen these bikes today had someone not done that exact thing. In 100 years we will be glad nobody rode them into the ground.

You could flip the cog over, or mount the chainring on the other side of the spider or if the bike has an adjustable bb you could play with that. Other than that I guess just mess around with chain tension. I had what I thought was a noisy chainline once and I replaced the chain without touching the chainline and the sound disappeared.

if it's too far outboard of the cog try cinching down the crank bolts just a little. or simply loosen the chain a little, throw a little lube on there.
if you have space on the hub threads, a spacer on the inside of the cog may do the trick too. there's always changing out the BB...

if your getting a laptop that a company is not paying for then the mac is totally the right place to go. Especially if you have any sort of student card, that knocks 10-15% off the price at any of the corporate stores.

True, but it was tasty cat, with chives on a plain bun. My hands were pretty greasy after that; I was thinking of maybe using the sauce they had to lube my chain.

Oh. You're going to use a laptop to take notes? Pen and paper... for the win. That or a tablet pc. Most of the kids with laptops just end up playing games on them in class.

Go to class with RAM stick MP3 player with a mic. Record them and listen to lectures in your sleep. Transcribing the notes to text also gives an extra boost of retention. Pen and paper for diagrams, new frame geometries and bike pimping sketches.

to be honest the lecture part is a small portion of the course. basically the chef shows you 2-3 recepies one day then you pracitce them for the rest of the week and are graded at the end of the week. so it's more for keeping a record of recepies and such. transcription; good point there and it works for abstract though like a philosphy lecture but i think this is more of a learn by doing thing. who knows, it's just an idea at the moment. you can't take your notes into the kitchen anyway...
