Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

ID 4 the coppers;
the secret is of course to be nice and cooperative, that way its nothing against them or you when you stick to your rights:
IDENTIFICATION
218. (1) A police officer finding anyone contravening this (HTA) Act or any municipal
by-law regulating traffic while riding a bicycle may require that person to stop
and provide identification. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 218 (1).
(3)…Giving one's correct name and address is sufficient identification. R.S.O.
1990, c. H.8, s. 218 (3).
edit- Kavermich'e example of using the UCI license is a good idea, shows you aren't lying when you insist on providing from memory things like name and address

i'm out for CV tonight lads, had a snooze and woke up at 8:15. enjoy.
And to follow up on that: 56. (1) The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make regulations providing for a demerit point system for drivers of motor vehicles or of street cars. 2005, c. 26, Sched. A, s. 5.
So unless you're driving a very large bicycle that may be mistaken for a street car, ask the happy fuzz to please write "bicycle" on your ticket. Demerits only count for motor vehicles and streetcars.
This from the Cyclometer
yclists and Demerit Points
by Barbara Wentworth
Does the demerit point system apply to cycling offences under the Highway Traffic (HTA)? In a word, NO. But does it happen? Yes, it can. Here's how it works.
Cyclists and motorists can be charged under the HTA, with similar fines applying to both ($90 for most infractions). Section 56 of the HTA allows the province to cancel or suspend drivers' licenses through a demerit point system. However, this applies only to infractions committed while driving a motor vehicle or streetcar.
In order to avoid demerit points inadvertently being assigned to your drivers license for an infraction committed on your bicycle, the following must occur:
* The police officer laying the charge must write "bicycle" in the vehicle type box on the Provincial Offenses Notice.
* If you go to court, the courts must indicate "bicycle" in the vehicle type box on the conviction notice.
If the Provincial Offenses Notice or the conviction notice is received by the Ministry of Transportation without the "bicycle" designation, demerit points will be assigned to the driving record of the individual. If the ministry is notified, the error will be corrected. Better still, follow the rules and you won't get a ticket in the first place.
:p to the last one.

Heheh, that would be pretty funny; it would be neat to BBQ a dog while riding around though ;)
Yeah, the auction was just posted and there was no pic, just a description and a decent BIN for the frame, an uncut Profile Design carbon fork, a Weyless carbon seat-post, a track chain and a headset, so I pulled the trigger and the seller is sending it USPS so I might even dodge the duties on it, we shall see. The description of the sloping top-tube got me thinking it might be a Pulse, that was why I asked about yours, but I think I'll be happy either way, I have a soft spot for black GTs ;) :D
sounds like a potentially good find... post pics when you can... this has that what's behind door number 3 anticipation

Okay you monkeys. We have two of our own, eyefloater and somnabulent doing the Friends for Life ride. I just took a spin through both the pledge pages and I've yet to see much evidence of any support from folks here.
I know not everyone is flush but every little bit helps. I dropped $100 bones each, mostly cause eyefloater promised to clean my Ciocc with a toothbrush for a month, but I challenge everyone here to drop $20 or more on these guys. Split it between them or just empty your pockets and give what you can. Even the price of a beer will help, like you really need it you chubby walrus. Apart from being able to hold it over their heads for the rest of their lives, you're supporting a good cause. Chances are someone you know or you yourself may be influenced by the effects of this deadly disease.
So pony up, buttercup. For the half the price of a new jersey, a couple of beers, or a massage (sans happy ending) from operator, you can make a difference, feel good about yourself, and know these boys are going to earn every red cent as they gftg.
Do it. You know you want to...

operater I found your track standing pic I can put it up on flicker so you can copy ??
So this is a pretty awesome song.
If you were on the CV two times ago ( when we went to the Kensington Mrkt parking garage) you probably remember me yelling "Short, short, shorty short, short, short, shorty, shorty shorts..."
Most of you will probably find it really anoying and want to turn it off but just give it a chance.
It is fuç|<ing hard core.

Unless he is passed out with drool hanging down from his chin.
I think I actually have a day off for the first time in forever. Anyone down for a ride on Sunday? If not I am just gonna go to the Island and play frisbee golf and drink many many beers.
I have a bit of free cash for those brave F.F.L riders. Being the fair minded guy I am an even split amongst those doing it is in order. That would be Eyefloater and Somna....anyone else I am leaving out?

I'll be up for a ride in the afternoon, but I have to drive my Dad to the airport in the morning. I would also totally be up for some frolf (and many many beers)!
As for the donation, unless Eyefloater says otherwise, you should should probably give him the full amount. With the un-entered donations I have sitting at home I'm nearly up to my goal so he needs it more, unless I've missed something.

You and your damn network of co-workers/family ... my own mother and sister haven't even donated cash ... doesn't help either that I work at a shop w/ 4 other FFL riders who are all struggling w/ their own fund-raising efforts. I think tomorrow I may have to show up on Church Street for a few hours and pedal away on a trainer/beg for cash. Keith, I'll need to borrow those hot pants you wore to Forest City. They looked like real money makers. ;)

Eyefloater, sexing it up for charity. *sigh* what's the world coming to? Better shave.....
Just an idea..... can't the store sponsor the bunch of you and use it as a corporate tax write off. Any accountant/tax people in the house? A few bike banners to put Cycle Therapy's face out there and you have a CT sponsored FFL team. Or are you gonna dust em everyday? You and Soman stage racing your way to MTL? <-- that's the way I wanna do it, balls out hard for a week.
This week-end is chock-O-block full of kids birthday parties and thingies. I'm riding the rocket back and forth almost the entire week-end. Starting with cirque du soliel tonight

Somnambulant - i got your message last night. i have to appologize for being a bit of a tool; i had my bike shorts on and everything then decided to wimp out and read my argentina guide book instead. i hope you indeed put your name on that beer and drank it. we need to figure out a system of keeping beer cold in a messenger bag or backpack. my initial thoughts would be to fill a large camelback resevoir with ice, put beer and resevoir in plasitic lcbo bag and voila. or, do you thing a bottle or two would fit in the resevoir itself?

CT's taking a huge financial hit for the rally to begin with. Anyone doing the rally that buys a bike gets a deal or a 10% (of new bike value) pledge toward their fundraising, we did something like 50 fitting sessions for people after hours, we're doing all the wrenching during the ride/after each stage ... that and one of the owners already shelled out $50 from his own pocket for me (come to think of it, so did one of the others).
So ya, they've done their share and then some. ;)
I think another thing I can do today is hit up some of the photographers I used to assist/do retouching for. Those rich bastards can certainly pony up for a decent amount of cash.
