Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Op .... why you movin out?
I think i'm done commuting after 2 years. It's always 3 hours exactly everyday. Even when I only have a 1 hour or 2 hour class in the day.
That transit stuff tires me out. Even biking...

I meant if they aren't making ya pay now I'd stick to home dude.
I'm an east ender and no, no typo, $680 for a two bed room (hydro's about $150/2 months in the winter). Haters. I think the one below me is opening up so I'll check in with my landlord. That is pretty exceptional but don't discount a two bedroom if you have the $. The pricepoint can often be lower than a one as that's the market that condo-ites are moving out from. And negotiate. As Cavernmech mentioned it's a bit of a buyers market, depending on location, so at a minimum you should be able to swing a month's free rent or some other consideration. University-ville or really trendy areas are often exceptions.
I'm in South Riverdale at Jones and Dundas more or less. Easy access to transit on Queen or Gerrard (--> College), easy access to little Chinatown and Little India and the beaches. Not as much of a hip buzz as further west, but I like the mix here a little better. Not as many people wearing black. I can also go in and harass eyefloater at Cycletherapy at my leisure, as it's just down the street.

TJ - i can't see anyting wrong with those nikes; the colour isn't all that garish. once they get dirty they'll look a little less bringht. i'm not mad on nikes though as i managed to rip a cleat right out of the shoe (the sole coming with it), with normal riding.

As I reside on the West side but have the shop on the East side...I respectfully reserve my right to represent either side of the tracks. All the best bars are on the West side so I think I know where my loyalties lie.

Depending on what divides east from west, DVP or Yonge st. I do acknowledge the bar thing, but using the criteria my east side votes are The Only Cafe and Betty's respectively.
Jammer, I've been eyeing that cheese shop. I'll have to spin in and buy them out of stock. And the bikes are still in a pile :( I'll likely be selling the bianchi grizzly as a city commuter and the brodie electro as what it is, freeride. That and once I get working on my parts bins should clear things up immensely. Now if I can only find a place to put my squirt boat.

Yea the construction would lead to this possiblity. Luckily I don't walk much with my shoes (unlike when messing), so they stay in pretty good shape for much longer. I swear it's quilted silver :gag:, I gotta see them again. I liked the Times for 139$, but not alot of footing for when I do have to take to a step.
I was in one shop and the guy's tellin me how I simply HAVE to have a pair of riding shoes for summer and winter, and I'm 'Dude what planet do you live on, you're tryin' to sell me shoes that cost half what I paid for my bike.'
Must be nice.

while having a pair of purpose-built winter cycling shoes would be nice they are in no way nessesary. just buy a 1/2 size bigger and wear bigger/thicker socks and little plastic baggies when it gets really cold and wet. add thicker insoles in the summer to take up the extra room. voila!
oh and operator is right, sidis are a good choice if you can find them on sale.
EDIT: in my opinion, Specialized shoes are great value. similar in construction to sidis and the higher-end ones but much less. just ditch those "body-geometry" insoles they come with. they're meant to me "ergonomic" but they just give me cramps.

Ok so I'm on the look out for a track frame in the 58cm range, and I want to spend around $300, I would want it to be steel for sure, and I want to avoid toe overlap so I don't want too steep of a head tube angle. P.M. me please if anybody knows of anything :)

Dude, where do u get a 1 bedroom for $600? In Scarborough?
Roncesvalles/Parkdale neighbourhood. I've lived in this area since I was 12 and probably won't ever leave it. I am right on Roncesvalles, so it isn't the quietest apartment in the world (stupid stupid streetcars) but I like it a lot here and the 'hood is great.
Someone else said that they live near here and yeah, the commute downtown takes no time at all. On my road bike, I am downtown in 15 minutes, 12 if I really jet. Fixed, about 20 minutes cuz I suck at the braking and instead go slow ;)

Sidis very nice though I find em overpriced, sale priced?....score!!. I totally agree with you as to the one pair one love. I have booties that block out the wind and the cold/wet, love em almost as much as the shoes themselves. You should have heard this guy...I wanted to poke him with a stick to let out all the hot air.
Jet I had an apt right across from the Dundas west subway on Edna where the streetcars come out at all hours.
RRRRRRRRRrrRrrRRRRRRrrrrRRRRR as it turns right outside my window. I like Roncesvalles. I'm in the East now. We also had a two floor loft at Ossington up from Queen.

The only thing I can think of is an Urbanite frame from Urbane Cycle. Maybe something used? A 58cm frame is pretty popular so the prices on eBay can get pretty high. I have a 58cm Colnago Sport conversion that I am likely to sell once my track frame comes in, if you are interestd, PM me.

Hrm, I hadn't heard that rumour. I would love it if the theatre could stay but I have a feeling it will go. I thought that it was being turned into condos or lofts, which would suck, we have enough trendoids around as it is. Isn't there an LCBO at the Crossways? There used to be one in there but I haven't been to it in ages so it may be gone. The one at Brock and Queen is convenient for me and there is also a beer store there. They've been (unknowingly) servicing me since I was 17 ;)
I am at Pearson; Boustead is nice, I bet it is quiet up there.

Steal it man. I love my stolen cable, even though I rarely watch TV. It just makes me happy knowing that I stuck it to Ted Rogers in some insignificant way. It kind of went down like this:
Me-walk out of apartment to dispose of trash....notice that coax cable running into my apartment is not connected to 3 way splitter on outside wall. Connect coax =free cable for 6 mo.
Rogers: Disconnects cable, installs 'lock' fitting interupting my stolen signal, leaves me a friendly note offering free cable hook up if I subscribe today.
Me: Removes 'lock'. Takes into workshop, drills hole down center. Fabricates crude female and male coax connection for the signal wire and installs in center of 'lock'. Reinstalls 'lock'. Free cable for 2 years and counting (and I waived the cable hook up fee)

I do indeed know the bada$$ blood gangsign where it spells out blood with your fingers.
