Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just posted a bunch of new photos, including some of y'alls.
check it out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wes/. There's just over a page of new stuff.
ps. if anyone posts anything from a critical vacuum ride on flickr, be sure to tag it "criticalvacuum". We should start tagging our stuff "torontofixed" as well. ya dig?
pps. yes, I do have far too much fun taking rediculous pictures of myself.

Anyone have an 80mm quill stem w/ a 26.0mm clamp? Something w/ about a -17 degree drop preferably. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but I need it quickly. Please send a PM before 10am tomorrow, otherwise call me at the shop (416.778.6473). The gf's bike is getting an upgrade - hopefully I can just pick this stem up locally instead of having to order it in (I need it in time for a Saturday morning ride).
- Mike
PS. cheap = good. I'm willing to pay with booze. ;)

several question's
1. what's happening with the jerseys we were talking about ordering? Jeremy?
2. any thought's on heading to Forest City again in the near future?
3. who's interested in the TDF pool? Anyone who want's in, P.M. me yer pick's and the winning time margin. Keep it on the P.M. lest you give some ideas away to the competition. Is $10 too much or should we just make it a gentlemanly type bet....ie: no cash?

1. yes. classy wool jerseys. bring 'em on.
2. I'm with eyefloater. The sooner the better. The only times out for me are (and him) are July 22 - 29 for the bike rally. I didn't get enough of a response when I tried to organize another date, so I gave up. I actually just emailed with the guy who does it (Mike) in the past couple days to appologize for emailing him about getting the combo day set up and then having things fall apart. :) If you want his email address I can pass it along.
3. I'm interested. I'll do some research and get back to you.. I vote for a deadline of 11:59pm Friday, June 30, 2006. :)

O.k. so how about we make it $5 a head. I will sweeten the pot with the "mystery prize". deadline is 11:59 P.M. Friday. Except for young rider pick. That one is much tougher and until the final line-ups are announced, a hard one to pick. I suggest we compile a list of the top 6 young rider's and everyone can pick from the list. That pick being due in by Sat 11:59 P.M. whatcha think?
P.S. if I win (and I fully expect to) the "mystery prize" goes to 2nd place and the money will be spent on beer for all.

I'm never good at picking team or individuals.
hmmmm Voeckler, Mayo, CSC is just chock O block full of potential. I can never count out O'Grady or Evans for a green. Dang, they are all awesome riders, that's just it with the tour you never know..... one mishap, a busted collar bone or some such disaster and your fav is out or so far back as to be ineffective. I hope it's a bloody free-for-all this year. I'd love to see Ullrich smoke the field for his own Tour but I not holding my breath. I fear he was Lance's foil, and now he doesn't have the juice to take his own. I think this is why I get quick picks when playing the lottery.
NOTE to the Race to Replace. For the longest time I thought it was a competition for a spot on the team, however, it's to win a spot on the team for a single race. Still the opportunity of a lifetime but not what I had first thought it was.

I have been following this a little. There seems to be some discrepancy and also some rules surrounding this thing. The race in question is apparently going to be a time trial as a whole bunch of pro's are voicing their discontent over racing with a Noob. Also the rules surrounding entry to a Pro Tour team state that the rider must be paid the minimum salary...even if only for one race. The minimum salary is $22,000 USD, so the winner...to be able to ride in the race they are suggesting, must be a member of the team. So on top of the full kit, bike and whatnot, the guy who wins can expect a $22,000 bonus.

I was about to ask the same thing re: the jerseys. i was waiting to see what traffic jammer came up with regarding a logo but i think at this point it would be smart to go text-only. if i don't hear any nay-sayers in the next day or so i'll email the jersey guy to ask about prices. what did we agree on as to text?

Any quality feather edge patch should work fine. Not letting the glue dry fully before putting the patch on?

i know what you mean; i keep a pile of damaged tubes in the basement and fix them with proper patches when i have time at home (not fun by the side of the road). i use whatever kind the sell for $2 at urbane, i'm sure keith sells the same sort of thing. don't forget to clean the area you're patching and wait for that glue to be mostly dry before you put the patch on.

I can honestly say I've never had difficulties with a patch either at home or on the side of the road, as long as the cause of the flat isn't still in the tyre. Back in the day I "used" to be able to do a three minute patch-and-go, never taking the tyre or tube completely off. My fine motor skills have suffered since.
If you don't gamble you can't lose. One vice I'm happy never took with me, though I have played a few games of pool for money.
