Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Pool is a skill game though... not really gambling if you know you're better than the other guy.
Then it's hustling and that can be more detrimental to one's health than gambling.

Has anybody heard about the Bike Messenger Race at the CHIN Picnic on Saturday (July1 )?
http://www.midweekclub.com/chin.htm
Registrations: cash only please. Please note One-Day permit fees are $10 all categories. The entry fee for the Pro Performance Elite Series Whey Kool Bike Messenger Race includes the One-Day Permit fee.
Yeah that might have been fun, someone passed this along to The Messengers International today. We'd totally have a kick ass team (3boy/3girl) if they hadn't chosen 3-days b4hand to let people know. I can't commit to things 3 days away, neither could any of the fast riders at the mess, maybe it'll happen...but I'm not for sure I race in the "Whey" catagory

It might be an idea to split up the condiments for the BBQ at Somnambulent's. I'd offer to compile the list, but I'm not connected often enough. I can bring lettuce tomato and onion. Thoughts?

There's an almost new Dahon Boardwalk http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/176049170.html or another older folder http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/176437477.html. If you want contemporary and reliable, the Dahon's not a bad price.
If you decide to look at it, check the BB and headset and seatube for odd proprietary sizes. You can also run into problems if it has odd size tires. Citybikes.ca in has many sizes of wheels/tires if it's an odd size. They stock stuff for Moulton's etc. Many older folders have steel wheels (ie. heavy, poor braking characteristics) so if you wanted to go to a 406 20" (BMX) it may not work if the wheel size is odd (e.g. 16 or 17"). Similar with putting a contemporary brake on it. It appears to have a cottered crank which is fine if you want to leave it intact. In all, consider the cost if you wanted to put new parts on it. You could probably dump an old Sachs hub on if you wanted to make it a 3 speed for not too much.
Folders come up relatively often. Crazy posting prices are typical for Raleigh Twenties mostly. The less collectible ones are often cheaper (like the $60 in the second link above). I've seen similarly priced ones for about the same type of bike. My only suggestion would be to balance it's funky look with the ease of servicing or replacing parts, particular those that may have a safety consideration like brakes.

Hi from the other side of the world! I'm in China, in Huizhou to be exact and man oh man is this place amazing. I had seafood last night and literally got to choose which shrimp, crab, and other food I wanted from buckets of them still alive and it was SOOO good. We had dinner with like 6 people, tons of beer more seafood then we could eat and it was less then 60 Canadian. I'm telling you guys if you like to eat then you should all come out here. It will blow your mind.
One of the people who teachs with my brother has a bike and biking in China is one crazy time. Everyone weaves in and out of traffic, jaywalks and cuts down center lines. Lights are merely suggestions and if you can get up and over the sidewalk then thats just what you do. All the bikes are basically s/s and are heavy as all hell but its a ton of fun to ride even if you do end up basically melting its amazing.
I'm heading to Shanghai for next week and Beijing after that so I'll give reports about biking there as I go. I hope you guys hold off on Forest City till I get back but if you don't then ride real fast. I'm going to see the new Olympic velodrome there building in Beijing and hopefully I can figure out a way to get on the track because it looks unbelievable from the pictures I've seen.
Ride fast everyone

So far I've picked up:
- Overcoming (CSC documentary)
- The Hard Road (Net Zero documentary)
- The Road to Paris (Lance TDF training documentary)
- UCI World Track Championships 2006
- Paris-Roubaix 2006
- Giro 2006
That site was also my source for the whole TDF last year and I'll likely get it from there this year as well.

O.K. So I have compiled a list of White jersey candidates for yer perusal. I have left Davis, Sanchez and Contador of Astana-Wurth off the list as it looks now like they won't be allowed to start. If you want to take a risk and choose one of these guys...and they don't start...you are out of luck. I kept the list fairly rudimentary but am fairly confident one of these guys will be in White in Paris. If you like a different guy, not on the list, P.M. me with the pick and I will add it to the list. Thomas Dekker of Rabobank was dropped in favor of Braam de Groot this morning.
Vladimir Karpets. Illes Balears
Alejandro Valverde. Illes Balears
Yaroslav Popovych. Discovery
Philippe Gilbert. Francaise de Jeux
Thomas Lovkvist. Francaise de Jeux
Bernard Eisel. Francaise de Jeux
Michael Albasini. Liquigas.

The Tour organizer's have asked Astana to stay away from the Tour. Astana have lodged a formal protest for which they are having a hearing today. I hope they get in cause having Vino there will make the Tour more interesting. Either way I am staying away from Astana in case more $hit hits the fan in the middle of the Tour. The Spanish authorities have released very little thus far....most of whats been reported is speculation...but...if they come out with names during the Tour all hell will break loose.

i think he means the indoor rock climbing kind, not the old-school gym class "up the rope or drop and give me 20 kind". i went climbing at joe rockheads off and on for a while many years back. i enjoyed it but could never find a belay partner my size. so yeah, i'd try it out again (even though i sold off all my equiptment, bah!) for kicks. i'll have to see what my work schedule / monetary situation is when i get back from the southern hemisphere.

I remember 20 odd years ago a bunch on Danish riders dropping dead of heart attacks due to bad steroids. It seems pro cycling has been trying to deal with doping and drugs longer than other pro sports. If this is any indication of how far we've come in this long a period.... pro sports is in big trouble.
I think we should cloister pro athletes away in governing body run villages seeing that we obviously can't trust individuals, teams, doctor, or national sporting federations in some instances. A pro sport contract should include clauses against doping, or any other form of cheating. Get busted ... not only are you out but you must pay back your salary for that period. The message to up and coming athletes is completely destroying sportsmanship IMHO.
