Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

it so its kind of strange that rob got hassled so much for his helmet; there was no way to tell whether he was on the ride or not and I doubt the FFL riders had been hassling everybody training north of the city...
Maybe it's the fixed gear. I think a lot of riders assume you are young disrespectful hooligans because of the bike.
And they may be right....punks.

 Not at all like you or me now darkmother? Choir Boys we are.
Has fixed gear taken the bad 'tude from messers, or is a fixie automatically assumed to be a messengers' ride?

yeah, I suppose disrespectful hooligans have the misfortune of being disrespected by everyone else even when they are minding their own business. One fo the guys we were pacing with for a while was friendly though and impressed that we were on fixies. And about a thousand people asked if we were alright when rob was fixing his flat. So I guess we shouldn't let a few people with last weeks chamois still up their bum ruin our fun.

Go to Cycle Therapy and purchase a copy of the book "The Art of Wheelbuilding" by Gert Shraener. It shows you everything you need to know and then some. By far the best wheel building book.

veteran_youth is coming to meet me at my place in half an hour and we are going to ride. If any of you would like to join, PM me for a cell phone number within the next 30 minutes. Vast apologies to you all for the short notice. Also- giant props for Keith (cavernmech), from whom I picked up a giant load of bike gear today. Hurray wheels!

Okay folks, Wes is over the hump and Mike's nearly there (although I hate to think how long he's going to have to scrub toilets at work). He needs $565 to be in the clear. I'll put up another $50. People, dig deep and help the Eyefloater over the hump too. Yes I know he kinda looks like a monkey (especially in the pre-crash pic) and pretends to have fangs with nacho chips which is weird and disturbing, but he is a pretty nice guy (even if he doesn't know how much anything costs at his shop - I mean anything, try it some day) and he's going to do his all on the Toronto Montreal ride.
Okay you monkeys. We have two of our own, eyefloater and somnabulent doing the Friends for Life ride. I just took a spin through both the pledge pages and I've yet to see much evidence of any support from folks here.
I know not everyone is flush but every little bit helps. I dropped $100 bones each, mostly cause eyefloater promised to clean my Ciocc with a toothbrush for a month, but I challenge everyone here to drop $20 or more on these guys. Split it between them or just empty your pockets and give what you can. Even the price of a beer will help, like you really need it you chubby walrus. Apart from being able to hold it over their heads for the rest of their lives, you're supporting a good cause. Chances are someone you know or you yourself may be influenced by the effects of this deadly disease.
So pony up, buttercup. For the half the price of a new jersey, a couple of beers, or a massage (sans happy ending) from operator, you can make a difference, feel good about yourself, and know these boys are going to earn every red cent as they gftg.
Do it. You know you want to...

Well, if those are the shorts you had on 2 weeks ago, then it happened in the last two weeks because I would have complained if I'd seen your pasty ass in my face when I was drafting you down that long downhill. ;)

1) I'm up to three flats this week. That's two on my bike, and one this evening on my car. And of course it would happen as I'm about to drive myself and my lady friend out to a nice dinner. D'oh!
2) I <3 Phil Hand Cleaner. BFF. I think I'd still be in there in an hour if I didn't have a tub of this stuff. And it doesn't ruin my supple womanly hands.
3) Dinner was at Boom Shiva. Wow. Just, wow. Go there if you like good food. EYE review: http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_07.13.06/food/food.php
4) Steeker. I hate you. Nobody should ever, EVER wish bad tire luck on another person. That's just not cool.

Well, I don't want to brag about anything but I had a GREAT day today. I scored a nice little Bianchi road bike on CL similar to the one posted above but in better shape and fully functioning for only $75. I picked it up on Saturday but didn't get a chance to ride it until today and it is a great ride and it only needed some air in the rear tire to make it wicked-fast; too small for me but I am giving it to a friend.
The best part of my GREAT day is that after I finished booting around the city on this little Bianchi, I rode up to my apartment and what do I see on the sidewalk? A little red bit of paper, kinda folded over, it almost looks like..............OMG!! CAN IT BE?!?! IT IS! A FIFTY DOLLAR BILL! RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQWQQQQQQQQQQQQQQWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Just happend now, can you feel my excitement :)

****ing **** ass day for me. I had to ride home on a completely flat tire. I already fixed it THREE MOTHER****ING TIMES TODAY. ****.
The rim tape moved on my ****ing rear wheel so it was causing all these ****ing flats. And this ******** fat girl on the bus needed to get a clue bat to her face. As in see this BIKE here there's only ONE Place on the bus it can go when it's packed and your fat ass is in 99% of that spot. Could you be anymore ********?
Then I had to put on my rubinos in the dark without a lever, boy that was fun - let me tell you metal multi tools are the ****ing ownage for putting on tires.
End result - 3 tubes gone, 8 instant patches gone, 1 ****ing **** ass day.
gangstar.
btw, the most money I've ever found was 20. and my friend was there so we spilt it 10/10 :(

Ok so I'm starting a list for people who have already taken Track 1 at the velodrome and are interested in taking Track 2 and 3. According to the schedule on the website, we can do Track 2 or 3 on Monday nights from 8-10pm http://www.forestcityvelodrome.ca/comeriderace.html . We'll probably need at least two cars to get us there, so if you're willing to drive a couple of people there please say so.
Add your name to the following list if you want to come.

I can only speak for myself but getting to London for 8 on a Monday night is gonna be difficult. Wes talked to Mike and he said if we got enuf guys together...and made a little gas donation for his travel...he would hook us up on a weekend. I might be able to make it on a Monday but a weekend would be much easier for me...Sunday especially.

I'm going to have to hit up the LBS in R.H for some rim tape and a tube ($6.50 last time I was there) ugh. Hope I don't get shafted.
