Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

:(

On a related note, I don't know how you Toronto people sleep at night... I just moved down to St Clair/Dufferin and it was a sauna in my room (but it was a lot quieter as I didn't hear any crickets outside my window).

Anybody meeting up today (I can come to a lot more CVs now since I actually live in Toronto, yay!)?

Last night was a cool one. You should have been down here last week. Get a fan to pull cool air into your room and block windows with tin-foil covered cardboard during the day. Keeps the hot sun out as well as pretty much everyone who may think of visiting you. Crickets.... just wait 'til the cicadas start winding up.

So the purge was a relative success....$160 for the BMEF. Not bad for a bunch of crap.....I mean awesome useful stuff. Getting ready for the big dump run. For future reference I am gonna hold on to the 2 cruisers and the 3 road frames should anyone need one or know someone looking for a conversion frame. Cheers all! K.

awww crikey. missed the great purge on account of being in nyc visiting my brother. lots of longing stares at people on their brakeless fixies zipping through traffic dreading the fact that i'll be in the blast oven that is the mta subway. and i thought toronto had a glut of people riding their brakeless track bikes in the street.. it seemed like everyone and their dog had one.
toronto always feels so quaint and cute coming back from that place.

feeling a bit lighter keith? time to tighten up the belt a notch or two.

the cicadas can get pretty loud. i prefer them to crickets though. those dang chirpy-chirps remind me of armageddon.

edit: that blasted know-it-all-cam beat me to the cicada punch.

^^^ sounds like an interesting ride for a great cause. $25 registration fee. I'm going to be out of town that weekend, unfortunately.

Here's what one of the FFL co-chairs posted about it on the FFL board:

The purpose of this ride is to raise awareness about an application to establish Canada’s 8th largest aggregate quarry in Flamborough. Remember the lovely Campbellville ride? Well, this quarry will be smack dab in the middle of that lovely scenery. (And no it won't get rid of the hills Smiley)

If this quarry is approved, it will affect cyclists by:
- Increasing the current volume of truck traffic
- The quarry will be open not only M-F but also Sat & Sun
- The proposed number of truck trips is equal to 1100+ per day or 1 truck every 30 seconds
- Location is at Milborough Line/Concession 11, a popular cycling route
- Narrow, non-existent road shoulders and limited site lines put cyclists at risk with the additional truck volume

Tour de FORCE registration of $25 includes:
- 50 or 100 K Route option
- BBQ
- Raffle Prizes and Product Give-aways
- A fun social ride

Deadline for registration August 21st. To register or for more info visit www.stopthequarry.ca

But where will Toronto get its aggregates from? We burn through gravel and sand at a ridiculous rate... As urbanization continues we are only going to be using more, so they WILL quarry that site eventually... Claiming that it will affect cyclists almost seems selfish when considering the ecosystem and drainage network of the area...

Unfortunately, I suspect many people think water appears by magic, so showing them what they're losing in terms of scenery may actually help. The website does cite watershed maintenance as prime reasons for this effort.

I would imagine that they write him a cheque for the remainder he is owed for first place, mail him a yellow jersey its accompanying torphy and input his name into the excel file listing the winners. It will also affect his standings on the UCI pro tour. This is not the way you really want to win the tour de france though, or any other sporting event. I assume they will have a little press coverage of him maybe putting on a yellow jersey to please the media, but if I was him I would do my best to avoid it.

I went there once years ago after hearing about it somewhere. Had no idea what the place was then.

Maybe I should go back and see if my bike is there.

Now for something completely different...

Packing two Mr. Potatoheads is a pain in the ass! Only the face bits fit in the butt-trunk, and the hat/arms/feet have to stay attached. How inefficient. Umm... Mr. Potatohead rides fixed gear in my dreams.

He had a fire a few years ago, if I recall correctly. The front of his current store was ruined and I never really heard what happened but I am sure some of his "stock" was damaged.
