Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

No more searching...you search too much!!!!! You go now!!!!
Man is it CM time already? hmmm last day before vacation can I leave early? Could require beers.

Rode last night for a bit digesting massive coronary schnitzel a la chef me. Operator... I like that two turtle lights setup on the front, seems to catch peoples eyes, even in the mirrors. Must....go.....faster. Buddy said he'd hook me up with one of his wireless bike 'puters so I can gauge my speeds now. Keith your opinion on the Fuji cross? Any other cross rider/store types want to throw in two cents regarding cross bikes, feel free. Cross so that I might toss another set of wheels on it and going a roadying.
The lower model is a nice bike....good handling...but the wheels are anchors. The Pro model is su-weet but it is pricey. Look at the LeMond models...they have 853 steel frames too.

I had looked at the Lemond in steel with carbon fork(disk) at Cycle Therapy, (2k-ish) I think it was , what makes a good cross wheel?
Shimano shoes and Time ATAC cleats....compatible?

If you have no bike here you can use the Cavern "cruiser" for C.M. if ya want. Just stop by on Friday.

bahahah.. I forgot about the radio.

speaking of which, I was walking home with the lady-friend on Saturday night along Harbord at around 1am and some joker on a fixie was riding the other way and was honking with some really rediculous sounding electronic horn. It wasn't very loud, but it made me smile and he seemed really happy about it as well. hehehe.. Now I'm on a quest to find a really inoffensive electronic horn for my bike. Don't make me try and make one with parts from active surplus

...

actually that isn't such a bad idea. :P

I've been thinking of dropping one of these down one of my bullhorns and rigging a cheap switch for a bell...

Active surplus used to be the bee knees but now they have no inventory and charge 3x what they used too, the gentrification of Queen continues. I miss the days of building overpowered hydraulic siege machines on weekends for fun. We still have a trebuchet that can chuck bricks at a stupidly high velocity...

It's gotten that bad? I haven't been there in years. Well, if not Active, then someplace similar. It's not like it would require very many parts.. basically a noisemaker of some sort, a switch and a battery.

ps. the trebuchet sounds like fun.. :D

Active isn't horrible it just has a 1/10 of the space it used too and has decided to move away from tinkers and more towards selling bread boards and LEDs and everything. Which would be fine but the prices did go up an astronomical amount.

The trebuchet is fun but the fact it requires hydraulics which makes it about as portable as any siege weapon.

I'm curious as to people's plans post CM, if anyone wants to come over and drink some beers and hang out my place is probably going to be free. The catch is I'm going to want to shoot some highdef video of your rides and talk to everyone about fixed-gear bikes for a mini-doc I'm doing about fixed gear riding.

Anyways if your interested shoot me an e-mail or PM or post or show up on CM...

Ok I posted but uh it disappeared.

To conqueror:

105 level SPD-SL's can still be had over at PBK for $45 shipped. Best deal on road pedals yet. However I wouldn't bother with any sort of non recessed cleats for intercity riding. My looks are annoying as hell to get around (walking) on but they pwn the **** out of the eggbeaters for long rides. They also have black (non-float) cleats for Looks Jammer, those are also the ****.

So in short. If anyone wants to get rid of some MTB shoes + pedals/cleats on teh cheap. Sale me.

Jet Kote. $75 for dip, blast, one colour coat. I have rarely waited more than 1 week to get em back. 905-625-4334.

I'm going down Wed/Thurs. *rubs hands in anticipation

The cheaper cross bikes tend to have wider hybrid style rims. I run road rims on my cross. I find the brake action easier to set up and better feel with narrower rims. If you have $$ to burn go with the Zipp carbons.

Or those nice Ambrosio FCS28's? Would those rims be tru-able on the road of will the spoke barrels fall inside the rim? and $$$$$??

money to burn I'll go with those Ambrosio X-Carbo's, X-Space, or Theorema I like their rims, loyal I am to bomb proof gear. They earned my following and until price, quality or availability makes it impossible, they will be my rim of choice. EDIT**** scratch the X-Carbos...tubies only.

The other two look like they would be fixie/ss friendly...I don't know what hub they build with but it's a high flange they use for stiffness. Flip/flopable? http://www.ambrosiospa.com/

Yeah, I asked them again and they said $75 for blast + coat. Made me happy. I forgot to ask them if they can repaint a chrome fork, or maybe I shouldn't bother with that.

At any rate trebuchets are sitting ducks from flanking cavalry due to their static nature, or archers. As the maid has so nicely demonstrated lifting the siege of orleans.

Keith: that chainring I got from you doesn't fit on the spider... Is there some special voodoo thing i have to do to get it on?

If the crank is a 110 it should fit fine. If it doesn't fit then it is prolly a 130 bcd. I only have 46t in 130.

Multi speed wheelsets will not be fixed compatible...you can run em single speed with a spacer kit tho. Many of the Ambrosio wheels are not available thru the Canadian Distributor. Rims (Focus, Excellence, etc) are available. As far as pre-builts from Ambrosio, the only sets I can find in the catalogue are Sonar, Sensor, Radar and Zooon. Not particularly expensive.

w33d when used judiciously in a combo or as a meal replacement is an excellent source of 'whoa, cool'.:p

Haha, my cleats of 4 months have worn out already cause I walked so much in them.

$12 off PBK, they also have knockoffs for $10 <- lol. I knew it was time to get new cleats when I unclipped trackstanding and starting off. Not good.

Edit: How many of yous are going to CM?
