you can get programable chargers with their own powersupply that can operate ac or dc for 80 bucks. u can seat peak mv, trickle and charging current for different battery types. check out the duratrax pirana...that thing is probably less than 80 these days and tops out at a 3amp charge rate.

if you had your own powersupply that u can run, get a lipo charger...they are only like 50 bucks for a 2 cell charger...and batteries can be had for under 100 depending what capacity you were looking for.

another route is going with one of those tactical lights that run off primary 123s...they have low voltage cut off to protect batteries as well as a regulated current draw so that you always get consistent brightness all the way till the end of the battery cycle. you can get luxeon bulbs that run off a single 123 that outputs 80 lumens...that's plenty bright for road riding.

additionally, these mostly have tuned optics for a very clean beam battern...no hotspots and tons of residual side spill. i personally run a HSD EDC 60 :D

Admittedly, much of this flew over my head like a London bound 747, but I would like to learn more of this DIY light construction. I'd LOVE to have a motorcycle pingpong ball headlight setup, with high beam!!!! :D I wouldn't mind baggin a recharagable 12v battery, what a couple/few extra pounds in the bag....no biggie. mmmmm surprisingly bright lights to one's way with. There are a couple sections of bike path at night that are terrifyingly black, in places you don't want it to be black.

Steeeeeeeker, time to come iiiiiiinnnn!! Little House on the Prarie is on soon!!!!

As for chargers, I'm not up on the technology enough to comment. I would think at the very least you want something voltage regulating that goes into a trickle mode automatically. Many bike lights don't have proper chargers...mine has a cheap DC transformer and a timer.

do they take these wrappers as well?

i thought the prices were more like 100,000 wrappers plus $1 shipping for a plastic toy i could get for $2.

Bah, with the way UPS/Fedex ships it's probably going to arrive in pieces and I have to pay $30 for them to fill in some forms at the border :|

Nice, thanks. The batteryspace was the one I was trying to avoid because they charge $20 for UPS standard (get pwned on brokerage) or $60 for UPS Expedited (ridiculous). Are there any local places downtown?

Right now it's looking like 12v MR11 bulbs @ 10w/15w being overvolted with a 14.2/13.2V Nimh D battery packs.

Basically it's going to last a ******* long time on one charge with awesome light output. You can substitute a SLA/NiCd batteries in place of the Nimh to save some money, but you pay for it in runtime/stable battery output/weight.

do they do USPS? they're not as fast but i find you don't get buttfcked by them for brokerage fees. i've had good luck with them with several large packages (bikes).

Let me know what you end up doing. I'm going to put together a system for the winter/night off road riding. Most likely a single helment mount, 12V. ~20W. The bulbs are cheap enough so that I may overvolt lots and just carry a spare bulb.

I would be cranky too if every noob at the track was beating my time. I did a mid 11 time the first flying lap I ever did.
