Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Paging cavernmech! Mr. cavernmech, please pick up the white courtesy phone, or the blue one by the water fountain.
Racing or not this may be of some interest, we chipped in to get it started but there will be more than just our stuff up for grabs soon;
http://www.messmedia.org/globalgutz/
I figure more prizes = more winners, so there are more sponsors coming soon...although I'm gonna have to insist that winners actually take the prizes eh? I heard something about a unclaimed t-shirt?

I don't know, maybe Keith'll tell us, but it doesn't say anything about it in the rules, so it's up to the organizer I guess. I'm sure you don't have to be a messer to man or woman a checkpoint

Hell yeah as long as you got Paypal, I'm going to write the tickets out as they come in this time, to avoid doing that just before the draw

The riser bar and stem combo is temporary.
Will post revised pics with eggbeater pedals and drop bars. :)
Enjoy!

I dunno. They come with any. :( But there's a plastic ring around the bolt to prevent some dirt and stuff. I think... Does your come with dust caps?

You betcha! They're the high-flange, bling-bling, now-I-can-lock-my-bike-and-be-ultra-worried-and-paranoid-now, dura-ace hubs. :o

It was fantastic should-a come a bottomless cup! The beer just kept flowing & flowing & flowing. We were then asked to start wrapping it up so it stopped flowing at that point, but not bad for $5.00.

In a hilarious turn of events, a friend of mine has given me a set of Shimano 600 derailleurs and I'm turning the Gardin into a geared road bike. My bank account and I are going to hell.
edit: How's everyone doing on the "East side", as kids are saying nowadays? Riding after I get back? Yesh?

Nice bikes! Those hubs are extra cool now that they've stopped making the high flange, at least I seem to remember hearing that.

I won't be out riding today. I've got a lot of stuff to do before school tomorrow (?!!?) and yesterday was a bit off the radar what with the brewery tour de force.

Ronin, nice ride....
Just got back from MTL, something to be said about leaving at the crack of dawn. No traffic troubles at all driving back on the Monday of a long week-end. Nap time. Global Gutz .... gonna check schedule and I might ride it. 32flavs.... did I read gears? *grins*

I'm actually in Edmonton right now and won't be back till the end of the week. Good luck at school!
edit: TJ, yes to the gears. No need to have two extremely similar rides, and the Gardin build-up was meant to be more of a learning experience than anything else. Now to learn about "dee-rale-errs".

Frosh week try not to get painted blue or something crazy like that!

So....in light of possibly moving to Rochester in a year, is there a reliable and fairly painless way of getting to and from Toronto from Rochester? I understand the ferry service got culled a couple years ago...

The ferry service has been an on again, off again thing. I thought they were giving it another try this year but I could be wrong. Maybe get chummy with the local cigarette runners? Driving is a *****....thats a perpetually busy stretch of highway.

Global Gutz is scheduled to happen Sat at 5 p.m. I have recieved some criticism and grief from some locals about the organization and am seriously reconsidering my involvement. I just love to put in my scarce spare time and effort to throw a race for people who don't seem to appreciate it. I am gonna talk with a few folks about it and we will see. As of this second I am out but that could change.

Oy. I had totally forgotten until I left my house. Kids everywhere! But you know what? Dodging them on my bike beats having to get crammed onto a subway car with them any day. :)

PS. I just realized I'm going to be out of town this weekend anyway ("camping" trip).

You had a freewheel on it last Winter, didn't you? I seem to remember you having one on there with a set of riser bars too.

Yeah, that was when I was healing from broken ribs. I set my bike up old man style....that was kind of fun too. Now I have no excuse (except that I'm an old man?). I took the SS IRO on the donut ride 52x16, and it was fine, no problem. Kind of amazing how little all those gears help.

dude.. you're a damn machine. seriously. I really need to give the donut a try. If you can do it on a 52x16 SS, then I should be able to manage on my road bike (I hope). :)
