I can't make a pair of walking shoes last for longer than a year... What the hell kind of clogs are you wearing rob?

My dunks are pretty (4.5 years I think) old but they are totally worn to hell without much sole left and torn up on the inside. They're not good for walking, and haven't been since about year 2.

Good quality boots will last forever though.

Sorry, who do you give your money too for 'safekeeping'?

Thats what I thought.

Its just how we roll in tha big six

i try to do most of my banking with a credit union. it's a bit different doing banking (which is a nesessity) and shelling out scads of cash for what is essentially a status symbol.

I rotate between 3 pairs of new balances. They're awesome but not good for cycling :|
I've just been told that I can actually use spd* style pedals with my sidis so i'm looking for something cheap and/or used so I can go clipless!

Might be a bit of a pain with road shoes. The cleat will be sticking out the bottom of the shoe sole, just like a road cleat, only a bit smaller. Maybe grab some cheap MTB shoes? I got mine for under 50 bucks off ebay-they aren't very nice, but they work.

No ordering and waiting... you gotta try your shoes on on-site IMHO.

Shiznaz
10-06-06, 11:08 AM
Or try them on at a store and buy online (especially w/ sidis-- try them on at MEC so you don't feel guilty for going behind someones back as well)

Only if someone has a bike to loan me.. I don't think this is a place for 23c road tires. :)

I was actually going to suggest New Balance for their durability. Mine have lasted shockingly well for a couple of years now... I haven't had a pair of sneakers last more than a year for as long as I can remember! And I wore these while travelling around Europe last year too (and a couple other trips), so they've seen a lot of miles. Plus I think they're a little more labour-friendly than most other sneaker companies as well, although I think they've been getting some criticism recently about their use of factories in China. So, maybe those days are over for them.

The Mtn bikes a bit scummy and the cross bike is ready to rock.....you may borrow either for the day if you wish. The cross cannot see extended periods of pavement tho...my cross tires do not like pavement.

My MTB is also available if you like. It's pretty oldschool though....2" travel forks-I am a luddite.

I probably can't get to the trail before 2 or so on sunday.

somnambulant
10-06-06, 03:31 PM
you might be a luddite, but I've never owned a bike with suspension at all.. back in my hardcore mountain bike riding/racing days in the early to mid 90's I was riding a rigid (steel) Giant ATX-780. And that means I've never ridden a bike with suspension off road. The only bikes with any suspension I've ridden at all were a rental bike in Vancouver and a couple test rides on mountain bikes in parking lots. :P

The bike is great! I haven't ridden with gears for so long, its pretty fun. I managed to snap the chain (!!!) already, so I took out the damaged link and put the chain back together with my chain tool. Now the cassette is making funny noises every so often. How many links can I remove before the chain is too short? Also cantilever brakes are annoying to adjust (at least for me). Chris king rear hubs make a crazy buzzing noise when you coast.

Also gears let you go really really fast. Its astonishing, and I wasn't even using the big chainring at all.

n. How many links can I remove before the chain is too short?

It's too short when you go big big and your bike explodes.
Also too short when your RD is nearly horizontal on big big.

I think it's the same lofox that tried to make snowboards in quebec in the early mid 80's.... then I think the shaper ended up doing burton and lamar boards.... from the searching I've been doing, it looks like there might be a connection to Troy Lee Designs somehow. You know how designers go from one company to another over their careers

I don;t know if you are collector of such things but you might want to reconsider the decorating. though being a giant piece of foam you could do sooo much cool haloweeny stuff to it
