Heya,
Jet Sanchez suggested this place for power coating a while back.
They're in etobicoke though.

Hey all, I am a Toronto cyclist but not a fixie (yet). I have an '80s geared Ciocc that is my daily rider but I am planning on "fixing" it this summer, just as soon as I get my hands on a nice Bianchi frame to switch the 105 parts over. I do have a single-speed Miele though, so maybe I can join you with that.

Anywho, I PM'd cavit8 with info regarding powder-coating a bike in Toronto. He mentioned this thread and that maybe some of you guys would like to have the same information, so here it is:

Spectrum Powder Coaters
416-622-4595
63 Medulla Avenue,
Etobicoke, ON
M8Z 5L6

These guys are great and friendly and, most importantly, cheap. I got the Ciocc powder-coated with a custom colour for 60$ and the Miele powder-coated black for 25$----they just threw it in with some patio chairs, meaning it wasn't a custom set-up. That is a pretty good deal, especially considering that it won't chip, which is the whole reason I had to get the Ciocc done in the first place, that notoriously lousy Italian paint. I hope someone can use this information, let me know when you guys next plan to hook up for a ride. Later.

Hey folks, any of you guys know of a Toronto powder coater who would be willing to do a bike. I'm looking for a nice custom paint job, the bike will need to be stripped etc.

If anyone has names, addresses, experiences, websites or prices I'd love any of them.

I think there was actually some discussion about this previously in this thread. Just use the "search this thread" button up near the top and search for "powder coat" (2 words).

hey eyefloater,
how's your buildup coming along?

Slow but good. I'm still accumulating parts, so it'll be awhile. I think by mid-February I'll be up and running though.

My brain just died ... but to whoever has the Mavic pursuit bars (Somnabulant, Shiznaz?): what's clamp diameter do they fit? My pair is still stuck in Flint Michigan, so I may have to pick up a stem before I get the bars in my hands.

these guys are near O'Connor Dr./Victoria Park area and do frame painting I think,

http://www.racersportif.com/Service_FramePainting.htm
and these guys are on Bloor west

I have no experience with either, but they do specialize in bike frames, so a custom/detail/multi colour job might easier to get from these guys than just a straight up single colour powder coat from a place that does lawn furnature.

FYI old Cinelli bars use a 26.4 clamp diameter so if yer gonna grab a pair make sure you have the stem to go with em.

hola everyone! akema****e omedetou..happy belated new year from japan... haven't done ANYTHING bike-related over here..but been meaning to.. saw 2 fixies, one in osaka and one in shizuoka.. former was taped up and had some kyoto loco spoke cards and tennis balls.. the latter was a vivalo which belonged to my friend's boyfriend. it was locked up outside with the flimsiest of chains..only in japan. suntour superbe pro throughout..with rusting chain tugs, a rear brake plate and a lever on the drops.. pics soon. i'll hopefully have a nice miyata conversion waiting for me when i get back.. thanks cam and keith. can't wait to dig into some buns. ;)

ohayo (or konnichiwa, depending on when y'all wake up)! akemash!te omedetou! i had a great time back in hogtown, but didn't get to ride as much as i would've liked with all the rain(!)...and when the weather cooperated, i was either out-of-town or with non-cyclists. oh well, nothing like lugging my bike case around the world...at least i was able to pick up some nice gear from 'wheels of bloor' (if you go, tell peter the dude from japan sent you). i was also able to satisfy some of my gastronomical cravings, including jet fuel, clafouti, terroni, saving grace, creemore beer, brar sweets, papa ceo's, etc...geez, i even stopped in at sanko for some onigiri, complete with nori, and green tea (highly recommended, btw!)...if only they also had the convenient hard-boiled eggs.

i also met up with gokiburi (who ended up helping me with some arts'n'crafty present-making. gokiburi-san, domo arigato gozaimash!ta!!) for coffee, an alley walk(!) and a tour of his office. while i got to check out and ride his sannino, he only got to see my two feet. and after a wet vacation at home, i have returned to japan, where the local temperature today was 15C and i was just rocked by tremors of an earthquake.

otherwise, nothing much else to report. maybe i'll see some of you in 1.5-2 years when i return again! or give a holler if you come to japan.

p.s. gokiburi> check out the pic...is this the bike you saw with the tennis balls? the pic is of one of the cats i met at kyotoloco.

p.p.s. cavernmech> i think you might know d.proffit over at 'the mess'? if so, please say "hi" from 323, if you ever see him!

I've got a new 49T Sugino 75 (144BCD) chainring on the way that I won't be using.

Q: Anyone have a comparible 48T chainring they're willing to trade?

Also no frame yet looks like early next week?! So no parts to trade but my (i’m watching) list is maxed at 30!
Thanks

*out of the blue*

I think this spring once it warms up a bit we should have a day of grass track racing. It'd be a good chance for everyone to come out and take part in something they're absolutely horrible at (unless we have a ringer in town). Then, I believe drinks (rootbeer in sr's case) should be in order.

gingerbeer is better!
If spring is in 3 weeks or more, I'll be able to make it.
need to finish my exams and make it into uni next yet.

Further to the cyclops track bike that was mentioned a bit ago, I've been in correspondence with the maker's son and he's got a few frames for sale. This is the one I was speaking with him about (a 58 cm). My circumstances have changed such that it's unlikely I'll have any cash for this. If you're interested, I can put you in touch with him. He apparently has some other sizes but he hasn't got back to me with what they are.

Hrm, that is really nice and my size. It is un-used? What is the rear spacing? Do you think you could PM me the price that is being asked for it? Thanks.

s-s-s-so c-c-c-cold.

I really need a proper set of winter riding gloves. I'm just wearing a pair of fleece gloves right now, and they don't help a whole lot. Ze goggles! Zey do nussing! My gf bought me a pair at Bikes on Wheels for xmas, but they were too small.. brought them back and they didn't have any larger sizes. d'oh! Now I have store credit and have to wait for them to get more.. Or I could just use the money towards that Soma coffee holder. ;)

I use the MEC espresso sunglasses with clear lenses for all my winter/night/crap biking. They are a great price and the spare lenses are so cheap you can abuse the hell out of them and then just get a replacement. And there is nothing as slick as wraparounds.

holy sheeit.. GOOD CALL fdude. that's the bike. small world eh??!! jeeez.. you've got a sharp eye. btw, i never did make it out to wakayama (buddy cancelled). i was as fruitful with bikes in japan as you were in toronto. oh well, one's enough for me! tokyo must've been 15C when i left and -9C in toronto when i got back. man, work sucks.. riding into work this morning was nice though.

jeremywhitehorn-

"kim moon" bakery north side on Dundas just east of Spadina is one of my fave bun spots, I don't know the exact address. A 10 minute walk from work means I'm in there about twice a week, I can get an assortment of about 6 buns for like $1.50.

loving the black bean crisps lately.... solid protien, and at 50cents its cheaper than a powerbar.

yung sing pastry is at 22 baldwin.. mmm, nice buns.. and tasty dim sum. all takeout. furama is on the west side of spadina, south of dundas. i don't think it's as good as kim moon or yung sing, but they do have good hk-style drinks there.

PM me to let me know what would work for you. I'm doing some work this weekend, but will be around most evenings and probably late Sunday. A couple of good ales would be preferable to a 12 pack :D

jeremywhitehorn-

"kim moon" bakery north side on Dundas just east of Spadina is one of my fave bun spots, I don't know the exact address. A 10 minute walk from work means I'm in there about twice a week, I can get an assortment of about 6 buns for like $1.50.

loving the black bean crisps lately.... solid protien, and at 50cents its cheaper than a powerbar.

now i'm getting hungry; i'll have to get some luch there tomorrow. cheap and tasty, that's the way i like it (feel free to run with the cheap and tasty comment).

anyone have any opinions on Raleigh technium (road) frames? yes i know that they are a steel / alminum mix and use that bonding treatment in the lugs which is precarious, but i have an opportunity to pick one up for a reasonable price (frame / fork only) and in my size. any horror stories about snapping tubes / lugs or just getting mocked by suckas on the doughnut ride?
speaking of the doughnut ride, i'd bet it would be fun to get a fixed posse to show up for it. i heard speak that this may have been done some time ago but either way i'd like to see how fixies fare against the roadie types...

haha,
Black Black is so great!
man.... I remember I got a pack from a friend who visited Japan.
He told me, "Black Black is only avalible in Japan"
so I figured it was a souvenir and I stuffed it in my drawer.

A week later, I went shopping with my parents at T&T (the BIGGEST chinese supermarket)
and I saw a whole box of them for sale....
dang, I felt so stupid. so I went home and chewed half the pack in one sitting.*edit- i'm starting to loose my memory. I just looked in my drawer and I still have one stick left! huzzah!*
sigh...

btw, cavernmech, I'll drop by on Tues afternoon to check out the shipment of frames.
I also should have a wheelset that needs building :)

Ya, I'm going to try to make it. Seeing as it's about 100 feet away from my apartment and I'm getting a cheque from work tomorrow, I really have no excuse not to show up. The gf is feeling pretty cruddy these days so she might not be in attendance, but I'll be there. If anyone's thinking about showing up ... lemmie know.

Anyways, to follow up on the dented frame.....
I got a package of random stuff to compromise the dent.
A bell that fits rite into your bar ends... kinda cool.
Got some bars, stem, seatpost, and saddle.
Well 2 saddles. One for grandpa bikes and a ti-railed saddle... that ironically also had a dent.
oh bummers.
Also got an 18t shimano freewheel cog.
Well, the package of bike parts is much appreciated and it feels good to know that there are super duper ebay sellers out there.
yay.
