Once again I ask: why is it that inclement weather brings out the worst in drivers? They're seriously WAY worse on wet/snowy days than "safe" ones.

I don't get this either, but it is very true. On my way home from work yesterday, I'm riding south on Yonge-no traffic around me. I want to make a left, so I merge into the fast lane. This woman in an SUV (it's always the SUV drivers) about 200 ft behind me starts honking her horn like her team just won the world cup. She rolls right up on my rear wheel and lays on it. Meanwhile, I am wondering how long it will take for her to realize that we are approaching a red light. She realizes about 100 ft from the intersection, and makes a dive for the slow lane presumably so that she doesn't have to confront me. After asking her what her problem is she responds "You're going to get killed!" (I love how these drivers are so concerned for my well being-it makes me warm and tingley in the pants). I explained that I was trying to make a left turn, and asked her how she would like me to do it. Then she tells me that I should use the pedestrian crossing instead. I suggested that she go smoke some more rock. God I love toronto drivers.

There's one every day, darkmother. Sigh.

Monday I was riding down Yonge st. and this cabbie decided to lay his horn onto me despite me being in the next lane over. I trackstanded his ass at an intersection and where he proceeded to hit my rear wheel. I got off my bike and told tell him I was calling the police for a hit and run as he was leaving (wasn't really going to, just scare the **** out of him for a day).

This ******* on a CCM at the intersection looks at me and asks, "Why are you making a big deal about this". He was lucky I was busy entering his license plate on my phone, otherwise I would've told him he was a ****ing ******.

What I do now, if someone passes me too close, is I describe a very small fish with my hands, shake my head, and spin my finger around my temple.

In fact when anyone does anything near me I give them this really disappointed head shake that I hope they are looking through the rear-view mirror at. Its a kind of passive insult in a way and the drivers (if they are looking through their rear-views, which I doubt they are) feel like an idiot. At least I feel like an idiot when people do that kind of thing to me when I'm being an idiot. Either way it doesn't make me angry to do it.

Now that I re-read this, it sounds pathetic, but whatever.

No, what's pathetic is that my instinct reaction "I'm 0.25 seconds away from a collision" shout is "DUDE!" Think about it: if I ever screw up, my last ****ing word on this planet is going to sound like some frat boy bull****. It pisses me off everytime it happens ... I need to train myself to just yell "HEY!" or something.

So, who's going to the bike show on Saturday? I want to get there early. Meet for coffee at 9:00 + leave for the show at 9:30?

I wouldn't mine going extra early so that I can take a quick look at the bikes in the city of toronto auction
http://www.toronto.ca/your_city/auction.htm

Timing will be tight though, as viewing starts at 7am, bidding starts at 10:30am,the bike show starts at 10am, and its impossible to know when the bikes will actually be auctioned and how long it will take. Still, I'd like to pop in just in case there is like some colnago with full c-record for 5 bux.

5 dolla Colnago? Yeah right....

I'm sure there will be other cycle gurus lurking the auctions and watching for hidden gems...

It would be a pretty sweet score though...

well, I think using two quotes by the great one would be appropriate in this situation:

A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.

You miss 100% of the shots you never take.

Hay we got moved! Oh well.

Good idea [165]. Everybody else doesn't need to see our thread at the top constantly because we are obsessive compulsive posters. Its kind of like a sticky for us since its RIGHT at the top. As long as we post in it constantly, our thread will always be listed as the most recent post on the SS/FG main page

I'm thinking Moonbean (where did you expect me to suggest?) at 9:00. And leave for the show promptly at 9:30. There's an open house of the new bmx park out at Bloor/Dundas W on Saturday as well, which might be fun for a larf after we're done at the bike show.

Hey guys remember when I *didn't* post pics of my new Miele Fixed conversion? Well the bike is dead already. NO I did not hit something (before someone asks). One of the seat stays just snapped off from the seat tube while I was riding. I rode on it for a while and it felt weird but I couldn't figure out why! It's pretty rusted inside the tube and I'm afraid the rest of the inside of the frame might look like that too. I wish I could post a pic (my camera it appears is toast), it just snapped clean off. I guess I might take it to Malcolm at Biseagal to see what he says but I think i'll probably just junk the frame. I got a good week out of it at least and at least it was free. I have a complete bike just need a frame.... I'm kinda bummed, but ultimate it could be a good thing, I'm going to get a proper fixed/track frame now, which hopefully will ride even better. What a weird day. Some other dude at work (i'm a courier) got his bike stolen and my friend got hit by a car too.

I’ll explain a bit. so i go to ebay.com/cycling on the top of the page a smoking chick showing her ass in a g string is the pic the item was collage foot ball tickets you click on the item & it redirected you to some page that looks kind of like ebay but so not. So the same thing happens two more times but topless chick’s both times. So it was a bit funny to go on ebay & see topless chicks in the cycling part. But it’s not so funny that a person can do that. Redirecting you & asking for log & pass.
Cheers

Dude that blows. You may want to check over the frame first to see if any other tubes are going to fail before you get that one thing repaired. Or you can look for a new frame...

Dan, I have a Raleigh Record 57cm frame you can have. It needs a bottom bracket (and pretty much all else). I was getting around to getting Keith to get a spindle for it, but you can have it if you want.

Thanks a lot for that Cavit8! I might be interested, although I'm afraid it might be a bit too big. Is it 57 ctc on the seat tube? What is the top tube length? What colour is it?

Yeah I saw that nice red Miele that is way too small for me. That fire engine red colour looks awesome.

It's 57 (maybe 58) centre to centre with about a 57cm top-tube. I don't have a measuring tape, so I'm ballparking with a level I have. It's a dark blue.

Crap. Did anyone score this Bianchi on CL posted later in the day? I emailed the person right away but I must have been too slow; I initially thought it was a joke. I guess we'll see it back on CL with a 500$ price or on eBay. I have been dying for an SLX frame and if it was a Bianchi, it will have been the celeste colour. Oh well, another one will come along eventually (but not likely for 50 bucks).

"Some guy Igor bought it." you can guess where you *might* find it...

Damn, that's a bit too big for me. 55 ctc is more my size, with 56 being the absolute height limit. I can do a 57 top tube, although 56 is just about right. thanks again though, I really appreciate it!

You have got to be kidding me. The seller told you this in an email? I received nothing from them at all. Great, Igor is on the internet, no one is safe. I see Uncle Jacob is on ebay as well, unloading some nice stuff too. This is why we can't have nice things.
