hey toronto-ites!!!

so I'm going to be headed into your fair city this weekend for the F*cked Up record release fest. Anybody going? Anybody wanna put me up for a night or two? i'll be bikeless (stupid Amtrak) but fine to get around to wherever. The shows are all in the University Area (Spadina & College, Spadina & Dundas), so if anybody lives around there....

thanks in advance!
BLDZR
NYC

i'll be at all three shows this weekend, so look for the SS urbanite. don't have a place of my own but if you want to get in touch via pm or email i'll see if any friends have a couch for you.

edit: http://thekilldecibel.com/board is probably a better bet.

ps: err, i'm aware i never post in this thread/on this board. but hi.

I think it's more like the stench of pure man. and not in a good way. when a buddy of mine went to waterloo for engineering they used to play a prank on each other that consisted of pissing in a shallow cafeteria tray and carfully putting it in the freezer then popping the frozen pee out and sliding it under the victim's door and waiting for the thaw. while funny, this kind of stuff didn't exactly make the ladies swoon.
us english majors, well, we smelled of dusty tomes, pipe tobacco and pretention.

Art majors either smell really pretty or they smell like pot or cigarettes, and there is no practical joking.

My early year sociology and geography classes always smelled like food because some jerkass commuter student would always decide to bring their DINNER into class to eat. I'm talking tupperwares spilling with cous cous and chicken with sides and stuff. It was out of hand.

Man I don't know where you guys were in school but my American studies years were fantastic. I think I had one class the entire time I was in school that had more then 4 guys in it. I was in pure female heaven it was almost as good as my years working for Fashion File or this week has been with Fashion Week and all.

My colbert-fu would be strong on that thing Keith. I'm very interested in a saturday safety meeting, when does this group meet and how can I become a member ;D
Traditionally meetings have happened on Friday's. It gives us a sharp perspective on the week's events and allows us the latitude to make quick decisions. Also the black time between officially leaving work and arriving at home allows some of our more esteemed members more time to contribute to the weeks issues. Perhaps if you raise the issue (with all the appropriate paperwork) at the next meeting and we can consider your request.

Hear, hear! He speaketh the truth. Friday evening is a very unsafe time and this situation must be rectified with regular discussion.

yes, there seems to be a real divide between the "black turtleneck fashionista" art students (usually art history majors) and the "one piece leotard and a cape" art students (usuallly studio artists). i always appreciated seeing people be-cloaked on the york university campus.
and yes, offhoff, english and art history classes are usually crawling with women. i always liked to talk poetry with them as it were.

Poetry, is that what uni-studs are calling it these days?

The problem for friday evening safety meetings with me is that I don't like to bring my safety gear to work, and if I go home to pick it up, I'm bound to be pretty safe there anyways. Then since I'm already safe I'm like, why go to the safety meeting? how can I get any safer than this? But you can always ben more safe, sometimes it just takes special techniques and equipment.

no it was actual poetry which usually got me no where. as for the cape/uni 'imagery', i'm not making that up. speaking of old-tymey clothing, there is a guy who works at book city who actually wears a monocle. i think i've mentioned this before but every time i see him i can't help but think of mr. peanut.

as for the safety meetings, i wish i could make it but work dictates that i can't. shiz - there's no reason you can't bring your safety gear to work, just leave it stashed safely in a bag and don't mention it; who'se going to go through your stuff?

okay, i'm off to put the finshing touches on the wünter-bike.

Call it force of habit. I've never purposely brought safety supplies to school, or to work. Well, the school thing is a lie, as I usually got most of my safety gear at school. And the work thing is a lie too I guess because sometimes I forget that I have my first aid kit in a cargo pocket of my shorts from the dangerous previous night. I guess I must be safe right now without realizing it or something... they do have emergency exit signs and fire extinguishers all over my workplace.

Offhoff
10-26-06, 01:51 PM
At what time does the friday safety meeting commence, as I would not be able to attend safely until such time that my clock punching was up. Either way I'm sure we'll all have plenty of time to discuss our safety in the future.

One of the dirty old men that works in my office likes to take "scenic walks" through the fine arts building. Apparently he has very sophisticated and refined artistic taste, and thusly enjoys watching the dance classes. A true renaissance man. Funnier still are the trades guys working construction on campus. Like a pack of dogs-you'd think these guys had never seen a 19 year old woman before.

I'm like 4 courses away from my B.A. I'm just not very good at going to school when I can have a real job that makes me real money. I will finish it up I just like having some change in my pocket too much to do it right now. That plus the fact that right now I have no barriers to my career because of me not having a degree. Hell most of my peers are blown away by the fact I'm 23 and have been doing what I do for so long but I know it WILL come bite me in the arse one day so I'll go get it.

actually i just remembered we had an assigment in first year photography to do a self portrait; one of the more eccentric girls in our class brings in this 8x10 of her self completely naked partially covered in frogs. so someone asks her if the frogs are real and she snips back "uh, yeah...of course!". that's the kind of breed i'm talking about.

God... Robarts is a terrible, depressing place... I can't believe people can spend so much time there. Its really really horrible. In fact I'm reexperiencing my hatdred for that place right now. Maybe I hated the place so much that I didn't notice any desirable sorts of women there, unless you desire 'depressed girls from burlington wearing pink and white sweatsuits with pony tails and a baseball cap', or 'unconscious asian exchange students', or 'Get out of my way I've been doing the same halfbaked masters program since the mid 70's women'.

Now, across the street at the AC was another thing all together.

I took a masters level course as a 4th year in campaign theory with 6 girls. One of them would later admit that she fell for me because of my knowledge of gerrymandered congressional districts.

How's DEM apples.

Art history classes are the worst! Avoid them! Anyways, all you see is the back of girls heads. The photography classes on the other hand... Its always a funny conversation when you are trying to assure them they will never go up on the internet (only the contact sheet)

mmm.. park pcs-4.. chock full of clampy goodness.

I couldn't put it together until I visited our friend, Canadian Tire (where I ran into our other friend, Cavernmech) for a real socket set. I'm also totally amazed at how many bits and pieces are in the one I bought. 241 bits and/or pieces to be exact. It's nice to see a bill that says "(SAVED $200.00)".

I totally pwned all the deals this week.

Oh crap I just realized I have my graduation in november... THATS gonna be fun. Nothing like watching a few thousand people you have never met shake some guy's hand. I think since my parents aren't going to be there theres no point in going. I guess I'll consider it skipped. Hooray for school pride!

2 including this one. Pfft our school loyalty wise is close to zero. Besides having my name hopefully on a 40k piece of paper I will have absolutely no affiliation with this ****ty school.

And bikechain.

pffft I learned that from the Colbert report.

Oh snap

And uh check this out:

So I had my closest call ever today w/ some ped who decided to look RIGHT and then step off a curb. I think I could have shrugged my shoulder and broken his nose on the way by. It was such a sketch situation as well, because once I saw him start to move (5-10' away from me) there was no way I was stopping in time, so I actually tried to speed up and just cut in front of him in time. Didn't say a word, just blew by him and kept going. I didn't hear anything from him either except his shoe dragging to a stop as I went by, which is probably a good thing, otherwise it would have ended up in my rear wheel.

Oh well.

Edit: Wee, Halloween C.M. tomorrow! That should be good times. Anyone showing up wearing something entertaining?

23? ah no worries.... I was 25 when I went back to school

Phwww, started back this year at 33, and started teaching as well. Double whammy. It is great though to have all these teachers at Danforth ask me why I am back at school. Usaully starts with one them asking what m ymasters is in (no masters says I), then honours ( 0 for 2) then confusion. Love the faces when I tell them I have no degree and get paid the same as them, well I let them figure this part out as it would be too cruel to let them know, without 4 years plus one more at teachers college.

It is good to be me.

Oh yeah, I almost scratched the limo of the Swedish king and queen today! They had 4 big coach buses blocking off a chunk of front st in front of the royal york (maybe for security? it just could have been stupidity too), so I hopped the curb onto the sidewalk and jumped down squeezing between some chauffeurs and a limo with a little swedish flag flapping on the front. I didn't think much of it, but I just saw a news clip talking about the swedish king and queen being in Toronto, and lo and behold, same car! There were also about 20 police and OPP motorcycles lined up outside. I actually assumed it was some classy cop convention, but I guess its just how we treat foreign royalty.

I will have a very silly costume for tomorrow. I'm actually blown away by how well it works.

Art history classes are the worst! Avoid them! Anyways, all you see is the back of girls heads. The photography classes on the other hand... Its always a funny conversation when you are trying to assure them they will never go up on the internet (only the contact sheet)

what are you talking about!? there's always the tutorials, or the study groups...

"what? of course they'll be tasteful...you DO care about art don't you?"

if it makes you feel better shiz, i didn't go to my graduation and don't know where my paper degree is.

what are you taking at school, pyze? sorry if i've asked before...
