driving the pinarello down Woodbine Ave today and I did a slow rolling cross on Queen Street with the intent on facing east on Queen just in time for the light change with a track stand and I fell over in front of all the cars feet still straped to the peddels laying on the road ******** nasty  . I jumped up and carried my bike to the sidewalk, straightend up the handle bars and continued home

Yes falling of the bike at a near stop sucks & sucks even harder when you can’t get your feet out in time for impact. Always a nice scene for on lookers. I know I’ve done it before.

Please tell me you did not get a ticket for some bicycle related thing? That would not be good at all.
Cheers

Is that Pini the same one from the MEC swapmeet? Nice looking bike, I will try the number tomorrow but I am sure it is gone. It would fit me perfectly!

The new (old) bike looks great move the shifters & very nice, tight. If you get the pini frame i think we should talk about bike-aholics anonymous ha ha
All in good fun
Cheers

Hehe, yeah, I know, I have too many bikes but the Pini was gone, apparently the High Park Cycles guy got it. Ah well, the Razesa fits pretty well and yeah, I will have to switch the shifters around, it will be much cleaner looking with downtube shifters.

Did anyone check out the Santa Claus Parade? What a nightmare traffic was today because of it, I just stayed in the west end and dodged a few SUVs racing along College. Some of these 905ers who come down on the weekends really have no idea how to drive downtown....driver's side wheel goes to the left of the streetcar track, not the other way around!

Yeah well, I wouldn't really say the 416'ers or 647'ers could drive either.

True, good point, I just meant that on the weekends it seems like I get into closer scrapes than usual.

Yeah, I saw that Cyclops, it looks great but I am curious about the repair on the top-tube. In that picture, it is hard to make out exactly what happened.

Yeaup, those GT's are legit. I knew of them about a year ago. It was just a matter of time before they were listed on ebay.

btw, how are level hubs? The flanges seems SUPER high. and since bikeophile isn't around, where can you source them in Canada now?

Weren't they listed a long time ago for the same price but they didn't sell? Or does this guy have a garage full of them?

I tried to call Level at the # I had for them....out of service. I needed an axle for the hub I had and couldn't get one...so I just put in some 6001 bearings and a Miche axle. Now I have a normal track nutted hub that I can space out to fit all my bikes. NICE!
glad I have 5 cogs for this hub as it might be a hassle getting more.

If you come across any extra let me know. I think I only have a 16 and a 17 (I'll check tonight)... If Level is going belly up, like people were afraid of when they came out, I may be screwed, like everyone was afraid of when they came out. The cogs are very durable so if I can get my hands on a couple more I think I'll be set even if production stops all together. (nice to hear it can take threaded axles and different bearings as well). Thats what I get for not getting phils like I originally planned I guess.

I wanted to get them on the phone but the # didnt work. The website is still up tho so maybe they just changed locations? Rob (Bikeophile) might still have a couple of cogs...I will ask him next time I talk with him.

Level was moving across the country, they posted about it somewhere on this board. I'm almost positive they did not go under but I'm sure a post to the wild main section of the board would give an answer pretty quickly.

Ever since I used to post on SA I have had this phobia of creating threads. I can see the "DID YOU EMAIL?" "DID YOU CALL?" "Level seems like a cool design but what about availability of parts?" "Why not just get phil?" "LOL" "Etc." posts now...

I had emailed them about a cog with no joy, so I'm hoping that they are still around. Otherwise I'll need to mill some cogs when I go home for Christmas.

Not really my bag, but pretty crazy bike, and one could do worse for the price (looks brand new based on the tires and drivetrain). It would fit me very well.

they're from: The Tread Mill

and I kinda do want to get a level hub. just cause the flange is so high. Kinda looks like your running a drum brake.

This is weird, maybe someone in here can help me: I had an old cruiser bike stolen from in front of my apartment but I think it might have been taken by a cycling advocacy group. The bike is pretty beat up looking and one of the tires was flat, so the bike looked abandoned and I noticed yesterday that there was a flier attached to it, but I didn't read the flier and today the bike was taken sometime in the afternoon. What I think happened is that the flier said something along the lines of "If this bike belongs to you, please move it or the lock will be cut and the bike re-used"; I now recall something like this nearly happening to my friend's bike a few years ago, that is why I think this is what has happened here to me today.

Does this sound like something one of the bike advocacy groups in the city might do? Or has my bike just been stolen? It was locked up very well and it was taken in the middle of the day and the cut/broken lock was not left behind, which indicates to me that it was done very visibly. Maybe the city took it? It really was just a grocery-getter that I myself pulled out of a dumpster in the summer but I used it a lot and would like to get it back. Any ideas?

Most bikes I've seen tagged are by the city. You usually have a week after the bike is tagged to remove it. You can probably still get it back. http://www.toronto.ca/cycling/cyclometer/2005_sept.htm#4

It was a Planet Bike lock like this one (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442594339&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302692967&bmUID=1164086248845); nothing super tough but thick nontheless.

Great link, thanks, I hope that these guys have it....I have 3 keys to the lock so I suppose that if I show up with one and, provided they've kept the lock, I will be in the clear. Thanks for the advice guys.

That bike has been listed many times, I guess the price is a bit high for most CLers but it does look pretty nice.

I'm picking up a pair of folding touring tires after work today of CL. 40 bucks for a pair of new conti travel contacts. They are about 40 bucks each for the wire bead version. Sounds like a deal to me!

I'm starting to recognize who each seller on CL is as well. Those 450 dollar cranks belong to robin, the de bernardi is ronin's and theres always that joker trying to sell the blue miyata. Funny marketplace.

You ever looked at the SF/SD CLs? Its like a bike pron overload. If I lived there I would be homeless, but instead of a shopping cart I'd have a giant collection of beautiful bikes.

Same with Canadian Cyclist classifieds, although they really need to do some work on that listing (no pics! or search tools!) My buddy has been looking for a 54cm road bike for ~$500 so i checked Canadian Cyclist with him and the average price for bikes in his size was probably close to $2000. All nearly new CF wonderbikes pretty much

glad I have 5 cogs for this hub as it might be a hassle getting more.

I just got an email back from Level - they're still up and at 'em. And they are doing direct sales if anyone want's to buy stuff from them.

I think sweep242 or jeremywhitehorn had a pair... I think it was sweep. Try PMing him.

Other than that I think I've seen them at urbane and I think they had a pair at la carerra when they were at bathurst. Other than that most stores should be able to order them in right?

edit: Re: Level: Nice, maybe I should order some cogs just in case.

That bike has been listed many times, I guess the price is a bit high for most CLers but it does look pretty nice.

that price is what it used to sell for new at la bicicletta years ago. i recognise the bike; i think i've ridden with the guy a few times through TFG.

Tired of the pansy winters this city produces. DAMN YOU smog bubble!!!!
Come on, riding in 6 inches of the white stuff, traffic snarled everywhere...BLISS.

It was a couple years ago we had that nice storm and I get to ride down the centre of Queen (in 8 inches of snow) without seeing a car for blocks and blocks. Awesome fun.

on a MTB maybe but once you get on a road bike and factor in all that slush and ice and falling on said ice in front of traffic=scary.

I had the Ciocc powder-coated black and it is now my single-speed with some 23s on the rear and 20s on the front....pretty quick and it should slice through the snow nicely. I had it as my winter ride last year too but the gears kept getting bogged down with salt and ice so I thought I'd try it as SS this year and build it up with a 9-speed 105 kit in the spring. I also have been tooling around on that little Razesa lately and it is nice but no room at all for fenders which makes it a no-go for the winter.

When/if the snow gets really gnarly, I have my old GT Karokoram set up with fenders and thin knobbies, but I doubt it will get that bad this year...10 degrees isn't really winter, is it?

Not even close .... I didn't have my lower legs covered when I rode in just after noon today @ 4 degrees.
Still need my booties though, STILL can't find them.....I MAY have to buy another pair.

I've oft heard of the skinny wheel set sayin' the slicing tyre gets right to the road, though I haven't been brave enough to do it myself. I like my knobbies in the crud. No worries about salt and a nice road frame?

No worries about salt and a nice road frame?

Not after it was powder-coated, no. This stuff is tough and doesn't even scratch, it just kinda indents, so I think I will be okay, at least for one more winter.

When I got the frame/fork, the paint was shot to hell and it had to be re-done anyways so I elected to powder-coat it. To be honest, I am not really happy with the job that was done; many of the nice details around the lugs were lost as well as the "CIOCC" emobossed on the seat-cluster area is sort of filled-in, so I will probably spray it myself in the spring. There are a couple of guys in the Classics/Vintage section who've done great jobs painting their own frames and posted the results, so I think I can do a fair to middling job on my own. Maybe a nice lavender or dusty pink, just to keep the bike firmly entrenched in the '80s ;)

What are you lads doin' for the winter?

I've got two frames, MTB and 58 cm road. I'm haven't decided which one to go with for my winter-beater. I'll likely just bum-bike a rear wheel for the winter as I won't have to worry about spinning of a cog in the goo; Loc-tite and rota-fix will do fine. My Suzue basic is slowly pooching out or I'd use that for a rear hub. The cones are shot and I don't know what kind of joy I'll have finding new ones. Harris cyclery has the odd-ball 3/16 side, I'd just need to find a 1/4" one and I'm rockin'. I think Wheels manufacturing makes ones that will fit at 1/4", but I still have some lookin' into it to do.

I may actually build both up anyway. It would be kind of nice to have the option of going wide or not depending on the road conditions.

the Fuji is sweet, I want some new bullhorns for it because the bars on it now have too much of a drop and those Syntace bars look pretty comfy.

How's the Pinarello?
